I could understand the government wanting to hold a presser for the first company to be brought into DFTO under their watch. But if this is embargoed until Sunday, it would seem unlikely that someone was able to take a photo from their phone. One would think it was a very exclusive event (exclusive in terms of who was there, not in terms of canapés and champagne).

Even if it turns out to be true, GBR won’t be existing as such until 2027. I can’t see a branded train out until then. When it is, LNER have been in DFTO for longer than SWR, so it may be on an Azuma first.

I suspect GBR is going to be a series of launches much as we’ve seen for the 701s.

I’ll wait until the launch appears in an accredited source.

The BBC news have the first nationalised service is cancelled, and second will be a replacement bus, not a train (so probably not in any relevant livery)

SWR becomes Great British Railways on Sunday at 01:59 BST precisely, external. The next scheduled service would normally be the 02:27 from Guildford to Waterloo, but that's been cancelled.

The next is the 05:36 from Woking - and tickets are on sale for £15:20. But this is also affected by the bank holiday repairs.

It's not the best start - the first nationalised train is a bus replacement service.

Wasn't the first privatised service e a bus? Fishguard to somewhere at silly o'clock in the morning?

All SWR electric train services should have been made standard class only like Southeastern and WMT. I hope this finally happens with full public ownership. The class 450 and class 444 trains should have been made standard class only when they were refurbished. At present SWR is running class 450 trains with sections at each end of each set labelled first class for some metro services which are standard class only.
I disagree. 1st shoukd have been retained, and made better. A lot better!

Maybe there was some other stuff said/presented at the event that's worthy of some secrecy.

The sticker is just a trailer for GBR. Fine in itself, but not anything special.

I certainly hope so!

Also hoping the flag isn't apart of the final design... it's really not needed...

Some people appear to have a real problem with seeing the national flag, something British people should be proud of, it such a shame.
I don’t expect people to be proud of it - that’s a choice. But the active dislike of it seems odd, particularly from people happy to wave all sorts of other flags!

That article is inaccurate. Only the second half of the first service is a rail replacement bus. The first ever nationalised SWR service will be the 05:36 Woking to Surbiton 05:59 service which is a proper train. It is only the second nationalised SWR service at 06:06 Surbiton to 07:02 Clapham Junction which is a rail replacement bus.

Some people appear to have a problem with folk not wanting to see literally anything British have a flag stuck on it  it's a train! Why don't they try to be a little more creative? For those wanting to see the Union flag, fly it from the top of major stations off a pole where it belongs??

Whatever happens, even if Great British Railways survives beyond the present government after 2029 it's likely to be absolutely ages before the majority of the nationalised passenger fleet is in a cohesive corporate livery. The application of modern paint and graphics is totally different to previous times. Even up to the demise of the Mk1 'slam door' stock, repainting consisted of a quick rub-down, a bit of filler, undercoat and a one or two top coasts - with a bit of masking-out here and there. The modern paint finish comes with all sorts of manufacturer's warranties and is designed to remain in use for many, many years - the original SWT paint lasted around 15-20 years and the recent repaints was a 'back to base' application and will probably be good until the middle to late 2030s.

Indeed. For me the double-arrow; dropping of 'Great' and 'ways' and all in lovely RA1 alphabet would be fantastic.:D

That can't be it... surely?? An embargo for that??? o_O

I get that the logo is to be expected, the double arrow and the name, fine but what on earth was all the secrecy about??
Maybe they realised it would leak so they did the event with that and have since got busy with their paintbrushes and 701 046 will duly appear on the 06.14 resplendent in pink with yellow spots...

At Waterloo today. Interesting - they have a GBR sign. Also, all trains now lack any text about FirstGroup (leaving a weird gap on the Arterios). Theorising a bit - the 455s’ SWR logo looks weirdly patched on… like it’s ready to peel off and reveal something underneath. Though I don’t know if it’s just like that.
