Note as requested by our leader, regarding the two stations at Saxby - passed on the last journey. (post#156766). This is a case where the original station was on a different alignment. It seems that Lord Harborough (the owner of Stapleford Park) forced the S&PR to build the original railway in 1846 with a very tight curve round the end of his estate - this was eased in 1894 at the same time as the Midland Railway (now the owner of the S&PR) built the connecting line to the M&GN at Bourne, and included the construction of a new Saxby station on a new alignment. And the old alignment was never connected to the Bourne route - so on any journey between Melton Mowbray and Peterborough either Saxby (1st station) or Saxby (2nd station) can be called, but not both. And on a journey between Melton Mowbray and Bourne, only Saxby (2nd station) can be called. That all sounds much more complicated than it really is, so here's the map:
