My Uber is only showing 5% discount , whereas a few weeks back it was 10% ?
Already discussed in this thread - see post #232 onwards.

To summarise, only Uber One subscribers benefit from the 10% rate now. If you check your Account tab, you may be eligible for a free trial of said membership (possibly up to 3 months); cancellation without penalty can be made as late as 48 hours before the free trial ends.

Actually the break-even point is double that - £1,000 - since you'd still get a 5% rebate without membership.

£1,000 - £50 (5% non-member credit) = £950
£1,000 - £100 (10% member credit) + £50 annual fee = £950

And that's assuming there's no introductory free trial.

Thanks. Must improve my maths ! I am looking at my Amex cards to see if I can locate the LNER offer. The one I have checked so far does not include it !

The cost of £1000 of tickets using Uber One is £909

The cost of £1000 of tickets not using Uber One is £952

The break even point is more like £1200 of tickets

@alistairlees:

I don’t know if you’re still reading this forum, but on the off chance that you are I wanted to say that I found booking tickets on the app fairly accessible with the iOS VoiceOver screen reader, the only difficulty is when it comes to selecting the date that you want to travel as VoiceOver lose its focus regularly and I find myself having to constantly cycle through each day until I get the right one.

Is there anyway this could be looked at, order to incorporate a more accessible time and date picking element?

Only for those on the monthly plan (£4.99/month, which equates to £59.88 for 12 months). If you're buying £1000+ worth of tickets every year (* and the rate of expenditure is relatively stable from month to month) then you're better off with the annual (£49.99/year) plan.

Just to update on this.

I've just cancelled my Uber One subscription after the three month trial period.

When you leave, you are presented with a list of options.

I chose the 'not saving enough' option. Inputting a short reason that I did not feel I spenf enough to warrant the £49.99 a year fee.

I was only using Uber for the train ticket aspect. Had no interest in Taxis, or food being delivered. I would walk, or collect food myself.

However, when you click 'leave' there are a couple of nag screens that try to get you to change your mind.

On the final nag screen, an offer for 20% off Uber one subscription appears. This would take the annual fee down to around £40.

Not sure if anyone else will get this. However, it may be of some benefit to others if they are offered this too.

I did cancel my subscription though. As I felt 5% cashback is better than nothing - for free.

I tried to cancel but was offered 90% off the next three months (total of 1.50) so I accepted.

Wonder how you were lucky enough to get that?

I was only offered the 20% off, which would of still made it an expensive proposition for an extra 5% cashback.

I've also noticed that Uber has shortened the period in which you can spend your credits.

Wasn't it once 180 days?

It is now around 60/90 days.

Uber will be targetting particular customer profiles. As you said earlier, with "no interest in Taxis, or food being delivered" you won't be someone they wish to target!

It's 60 days "from the date of issue" (which can be a while after the tickets are purchased)/

It was 180 days before the changes in January (see Edvid's post here).

Has Uber also stopped the 5% rail cashback for non Uber One members?

I'm still awaiting upon cashback from a journey last weekend. Usually I've seen the amount deposited a few days afterwards, around the Tuesday.

Also when I made a booking today, saw no mention of 'you'll earn this many Uber credits'.

If Uber has discontinued the 5% for non members, there isn't much of an incentive to carry on using them for ticket purchases.

5% for non-members is still in the terms (until at least 31 May), as is the maximum wait of 60 days for credits to arrive.

The 'you'll earn this many Uber credits' message doesn't appear for transactions below £10 but credits will be issued regardless.

I also accepted a pre-cancellation membership extension offer (50p for 1 month, so only need to spend £10.10 for a net saving).

I was surprised that Uber Travel now does split ticketing. Two days ago it produced a split when I searched for a ticket from Poole to Weymouth, with Wool being the split point, however the user experience was not good as it was only the very last moment, just before the payment, I could see where the split point was.

Unfortunately on the return journey there was a disruption on the line (tree blocking the line) resulting in multiple cancellations, so I took a GWR train from Weymouth to Dorchester West and abandoned the journey there. I have opened a customer support ticket and asked for a disruption refund for the unused return portion of Wool - Poole ticket.

If you abandon your journey without reaching the destination due to disruption you are entitled to a refund for the full ticket - I have claimed a refund like this from uber before and had it come through within an hour so hopefully you have a similar experience

That's not the case anymore, it changed in the last (I think) iteration of the Conditions of Travel. Now, the full refund is only due if you return to your point of origin.

Damn I did not know, thanks for saying. What's the expected process if you travel a little bit of your ticket and then abandon?

That's not specified, but I would assume that your entitlement is to a refund of the difference between what was paid and the price of a ticket for the journey actually made.

The Customer Service refunded the whole of all my tickets despite I mentioned that it was my return journey being disrupted and I abandoned my return journey at Dorchester West.

What you get might be more than you are entitled to.

They're welcome to do that for their customer out of their pocket. I'd be willing to bet a pint they've refunded it in Lennon though, and if that's the case their refund audit could (hopefully) be awkward :D
