Still begs the question of whether any can operate in service before at least phase 1 is complete. Depends on what the upgrade is needed for, I suppose.
Possibly depot can be used, but not ideally configured, got to keep moving trains around to fuel them, empty toilets, clean inside, service engines. And every time one moves blocks others etc.

If the roads were set up for trains with power cars at the end, might not be easy to use multiple units currently

Quick query, are the units at Wolverton still visible? If they're not I'm under the assumption that the work is being done, but how long does anybody reckon it will take? (No need to be specific, but just a general time scale based on how much work we reckon is being done there, as we still don't know the full details if I'm not mistaken.)

Much appreciate any answers in advance.

Taken inside the works last week, didn't see them on Monday when I passed by.

Brilliant! Some progress for the units and we'll be able to see them out and about

Indeed, potentially making any modifications to the Laira depot that Chester already has including the equipment to keep the underframe fully washed and clean - not that I doubt Laira has this capability but I’m sure they’ll be bits that Chester has that Laira hasn’t!
Chester Underframe wash was programmed to treat the various carriages differently to avoid dowsing the more sensitive bits of underfrane equipment,
