A broken down train caused by vandalism is disrupting services near Peterborough.

So what bit of the ECML has gone missing tonight?
Delays up to 183min (NRES claims "up to 90 min").

1430 Hull-Kings Cross failed with a sheared brake pipe between two carriages. Stood near Huntingdon for nearly 3 hours.

I know that the Official Explanation was 'due to vandalism', but did this vandalism mean that it was literally impossible to move the Train, or was it just the usual, routine taking-forever-to-react-to-a-situation, and if so why? If the Train had not been derailed, or it was not literally impossible to move it, why should it have taken three hours to alleviate the situation? This is why I do not travel by Train anywhere near as often as I used to; the fear that, if one thing goes wrong, I may be stuck for literally hours before anything is done. (that and the fares, obviously.)

Seems like a rather silly reason to boycott trains, the last time I had a delay over an hour was many years ago and from over 1000 journeys this year I have had only one delay over 45 minutes.

In this instance the brakes were damaged on the train and it does seem sensible not to move a train that has damaged brakes.

I mainly get delayed on motorways, far more so than on trains

I commute daily and probably have made, for work and leisure, about 500 journeys. I've been delayed by one hour once due to a failed train, and three hours once due to OHLE vandalism and my train was stuck in a dead section.

99.8% of my journeys have been absolutely fine.
