Morning all,

Thanks for your help previously. I've now been lurking here some time and actually will get round to posting properly soon!

However, I did have another question when I was looking at splitting tickets. Take the following example - I have a season ticket from Trowbridge to Filton Abbey Wood, but want to travel on to Newport. The only tickets available from Filton to Newport are Anytime tickets. However, Advance tickets are available from Bristol Temple Meads, which are cheaper. So, if I combine a Trowbridge - Filton season ticket with a Temple Meads - Newport advance, can I (as long as I'm on the booked train for the advance) travel through Trowbridge - Newport? Or would this be regarded as starting the advance section at Filton, which clearly isn't allowed?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Your season is valid for any journey between Trowbridge and Filton Abbey Wood, this would include Trowbridge-Bristol Temple Meads.

What would not be allowed by the rules would be something like your season and a Weston-Super-Mare to Newport advance to make your journey from Trowbridge (although the question of anyone noticing is quite another matter).

Do you intend to travel through Bristol Temple M?

I often do this, combine a BHM or COV advance to Euston with my season ticket and get on the train at Wolves.

The train will stop where your advance ticket starts otherwise the ticket wouldn't exist.

The reason I asked the question is because I inferred the poster would be starting short on the Advance at Filton.

There was a similar debate a few months ago whether a Portsmouth - Waterloo (or some such) Advance was valid to alight at Clapham Junction so that the passenger didn't have to double back to there from Waterloo to go to Feltham (or some such). BoJ is not allowed on Advances as I'm sure you're aware, but if the passenger doesn't leave the station at Clapham Jct, are they actually breaking their journey.

Yes, I'll be travelling through Temple Meads, as far as I know all the Portsmouth to Cardiff trains stop there, as well as Trowbridge and Newport so it'll just be the one train straight through. I think that's my question answered then, thanks so much for your help!

You use the season as far as Bristol, then put it away as the Advance is then valid from there.
