Scotrail - Trainee Driver - Various (March 24)

Ive read through a lot of the comments here and like you all I was in the same boat, going through all the assessments, eager to find out as much as I could. I first applied in 2013 but unfortunately failed at the last stage (MMI). I eventually started as a Station Grade B (Station services)...

    Scotrail Trainee Drivers (Ongoing)

Been there my friend. I failed at the very final hurdle around 8 years ago. (External applicant). Since then I applied for a guards role which I was lucky enough to be successful with, and reapplied for the drivers role internally. I was lucky enough to be successful this time round and have...

    Scotrail Trainee Drivers (Ongoing)

Typically it’ll be a week of earlies, then a week of lates, with a few lines of mid shifts thrown in here and there. Some depots also have Nightshift work. Earliest start / latest finish (depot dependant) will be around 0330 / 0130. Rest day pattern usually follows a 3 week rotation. Week 1 RD...

Suit if possible, but Shirt and Tie would suffice (First Impressions count). As well as the ‘normal’ interview prep, do as much research on Scotrail as a whole, and also the depot you are applying for. Things like Routes, Tractions. Pay a visit to the depot and try talk to some drivers and ask...

Stage 1 Testing ScotRail 1st of Feb

I would second this. DTMs always like candidates to make an effort and do a bit of their own research, by visiting their proposed depot and speaking to some drivers. Even try and speak to a DTM if possible.

Stage 1 Testing ScotRail 1st of Feb

Assessment Center for first lot of tests, then DMI, followed by another trip to assessment Center for computerised tests. If successful then onto medical.

    Scotrail Trainee Drivers (Ongoing)

There were external assessments carried out Wednesday, can’t speak of any other day this week. Those of you waiting, I know it may be hard but just be patient. They advertised for the whole of Scotland so naturally there will have been 1000’s and 1000’s of applicants. They may be doing it...

Good luck mate! Make sure you use the practice materials provided.

    Press, call, react

Dependant on the circumstance, but personally speaking if I see a cautionary aspect in the distance I’m reacting to it. Why wait until I hit the magnet to simply press, call and then react, just heightens the risk, no?

    Press, call, react

Press- Aws reset, upon receiving horn. Call - call out associated reason for horn (double yellow, ESR, Morpeth etc) React - brake. I was always told it’s back to front tho, as in reality you usually react first, call out then cancel Aws, but I guess React, Call Press doesn’t have as nice a...

    ScotRail conductor application?

I wouldn’t worry too much. There’s been loads of positions for multiple depots been listed both internally and externally. There will have been 1000s of applications so they will be getting through them. I’ve spoken to a few externals who have just had their assessments so def working their way...

    Scotrail Trainee Drivers (Ongoing)

Can’t speak for any other depots other than Edinburgh really, but there are 3 links. Based on seniority. They’re the rosters that are made up, link 1 being the most senior drivers. A newly passed out driver will slot into link 3 providing there is space. Link 1 drivers sign HSTs, whereas Link 2...

    Scotrail Trainee Drivers (Ongoing)

The switch to now being run under Scottish Government shouldn’t affect any recruitment, If you are already in the system. Which depot have you applied for? As has been said, the training school is back up and running, but trying to clear a backlog off trainee’s due to Covid. There’s been a knock...

Presumably you have the second set of assessments along side your MMI? Work through the practice materials provided, is my recommendation. I never really came across anything else that replicated the tests too well. MMI is fairly straight forward, Questions you would expect. There is a list of...

    Scotrail Trainee Drivers (Ongoing)

It really all depends on the depot you are in for? You’ll be through at the school for 2 weeks initially to complete modules 1&2. Return to Home Depot for a week of front end turns. Back to the school for 2 weeks of module 4, then return to Home Depot for 1 week for a second set of front...
