    A sorry state of affairs

I agree with the comments that in fact these situations are rare. I also have benefitted from leniency by staff on the odd occasion. I feel the situation that seems to be happening on Northern Rail specifically - very aggressive enforecement - seems to be a bad trend, and I think this puts...

    A sorry state of affairs

Every now and again I swing past this forum; usually when I'm in a jovial mood and feel like I need to lower my happiness rating back more towards the average. In days gone by, I recall train travel as pleasant pastime, slowly travelling through the country, watching the scenery go by...

    Booked advance wrong date

Well I rang them and they changed the ticket at no charge :D Great advice - thanks. I am not a great fan of Virgin (mostly due to the exceptionally high fares for standard tickets) but here they have come good. I guess it is because I rang straight away after booking.

    Booked advance wrong date

I'm such a clot. I just booked an advance, and after the site crashed first time around I managed to pick the wrong date when rebooking. Given I have only just booked this (in the last hour) - is there any leniency in getting it changed without a fee? I booked using Virgin trains for 21st...

    Advance ticket with no reservation

Maybe just one final detail I omitted was: not only is there not a seat reservation but there is not a "train" reservation either, i.e. there is no coupon saying Seat: ***". Hope that makes sense.

First Capital connect notice to prosecute letter - help

tbh it's probably easier to know your rights than know what ticket to buy in every circumstance.

    Advance ticket with no reservation

OK Thanks. You guys are great and always a quick response. Wasn't aware of that FAQ will have a good read through.

    Advance ticket with no reservation

I have an advance ticket Rugby to Penrith with a change a Birmingham New Street. The leg from BHM has a seat reservation but not the leg from RUG-BHM (when I booked it, the timing was for a London Midland service). Is it valid for me to take a preceeding Virgin service on the RUG-BHM leg...

First Capital connect notice to prosecute letter - help

I am not knowledgable on penalty fares but am keen to know my rights if a situation crops up. If the OP is entitled under the PF Regs to leave the train and buy a ticket, but was advised by the inspector that they couldn't do this, would this count as a breach of the regulations and thus...

    Rugby to Euston season

Right OK - so I've done the deed - RUG - MKC season + anytime return MKC - EUS purchased. I jump on the 10:24 at Rugby and boom, all trains are suspended due to http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=51266 The train didn't leave Rugby and I need to get to London for a meeting, so I...

    Rugby to Euston season

I have always (begrudgingly) bought the £116 returns traveling RUG to EUS peak time. But even for just one journey a RUG to MKC season + MKC to EUS return is cheaper. Although it needs a bit more planning, it is a reasonable saving. Thanks to these forums I understand I can take any train...

    Rugby to Euston season

I need to make 2 returns (peak time VT) RUG to EUS within 7 days. A standard anytime return is £116 for each journey, so a 7 day season at £166 is an option. Might I be better getting a 7 day RUG to MKC season at £58 and then 2x MKC-EUS returns at £35 each? Also what does Travel is...

    Anytime tickets

It's not so much that is is valid "Anywhere", but "Anyhow". The real problem is that the national rail online booking doesn't distinguish between VT only anytime and Anyhow Anytime untill you want to buy the ticket. You click on info for "Anytime" and you get the "complete flexibility" gush...

    Anytime tickets

I was about to purchase an “Anytime” ticket which, according to http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/anytime_conditions.html allows me to travel with “no restrictions on when you can travel.” " Perfect for people who need complete flexibility.". Furthermore “Anytime Singles tickets are...
