    Private charter train this Saturday

The charter on Saturday was a Vintage Trains do for someones 90th birthday, 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe in charge, the one today called Renaissance Hotel re-opening. Charter 15/05/2011, details for both are now on UKSteam although the details for the latter not released until it was underway...

    Lineside Trespassers.

Surprisingly in those days despite wandering over the tracks, people had and were allowed to use 'common sense', and as a result I never heard of any disasters. Go on a photo charter today to countries like Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, the train stops at a suitable photogenic...

Knowing the route or train too well.

An Uncle of mine was involved in this, he did not know the route very well but was handy with a shovel and had sufficient knowledge to be able to keep up an reasonable head of steam, and if you are thinking he must be getting on a bit, he is 103 and still capable of living on his own.

    Health and Safety? (Lymington sacking)

I've scanned through most of this thread but have not seen any mention of the procedure that he should have taken, ie informed a superior of the problem etc etc. How long would it then have taken for the wheels to grind into action and get a suitable qualofied person to come and remove said...

    Lineside Trespassers.

As someone who was around in the 50's, the attitude was still very relaxed and I was on quite a few rail tours where when the train stopped in a station everyone swarmed all over the tracks, a bellow from the signal box that there was a train comiong and everyone cleared the line to return after...

    smoking ban

Don't make me laugh, there were never any police in our area before the so called cuts, so how can zero presence be reduced.???

    Train spotters

I may be missing something here but those aren't those giving the 'create a vacuum' signal actually imitating the pulling of the cord/chain/lever that operates the whistle on a steam loco. :?:

    Stockport-Denton line closed

This problem caused a diversion at the weekend for the Vintage trains steam hauled charter with 5043, Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, originally routed Crewe, Stockport, Stally and Huddersfield, had to go via Warrington to Vic but then had the added bonus of a blast up Miles Platting bank. This one...

    Dodgy Automated Announcements

Videoing a steam charter the other day, 'Please stand well back, the train now approaching..........' the rest of the announcement was drowned out as Princess Elizabeth roared out of the darkness, whistle blowing at 75mph. Maybe the announcer was a wee bit late starting.

    34067 Tangmere Cleethorpes-Chester 2/4/11

Nice shot Chris. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- That delay was no fault of 44871, the diesel that was to haul the stock and 44871 from Crewe to Liverpool failed at Crewe. The only available diesel was at Edge Hill so it had to go to Crewe first.

I understand that both the 'Broadsman', Liverpool St to Sheringham and Holt and return with Oliver Cromwell, and the 'Settle & Carlisle', Tyseley to Carlisle, and return, Shap out and S&C return, 6201 Princess Elizabeth from Crewe to Crewe, will be covered with regular updates on Railtour Live...

    gauge

Further searching comes up with, these carts etc were usually hauled by 2 horses, and the width needed to be sufficient so that where the horses walked/galloped did not cut up the ground that the wheels ran on, if they did then you got a very rough ride as opposed to just a rough ride......
