With a reported 10000 applications the chances are your applications/answers were not even sifted by a human, they can simply put job filters to filter the jobs/backgrounds that they want people coming from, therefore if your background/job does not match the ones they have put to filter out...
This is the best advice anyone can give on a rail application, listen take note, go about your daily lives instead of refreshing an email 100 times a day. At the end of the day it’ll probably go to a ex forces, policemen or one of their other favoured backgrounds anyway.
