    Dublin Leap Visitor Card

The only time it would be advantageous would be for a 5+ day trip that spans two calendar (Monday-Sunday) weeks. The weekly Visitor Leap Card is simply valid for 168 hours from first use, whereas the regular Leap Card weekly cap is for travel in each calendar week, Monday-Sunday. The main...

    Dublin Leap Visitor Card

The prices for Leap Visitor Cards were announced to be being changed as part of widespread fare changes under the NTA Fares Determination in January 2024. The changes were originally meant to take effect before September 2024, but were heavily delayed and split into phases - the first of which...

    Dublin Leap Visitor Card

It cannot be refunded in person, but you can refund it online by declaring the card lost. You need a European bank account to receive the refund - in the UK you can use a free Euro account from Revolut, Starling, etc.

    First Bus Ireland (Aircoach/Matthews) Discussion

I wonder if this indicates a desire to phase out the Matthews brand, after all their reputation is very far from stellar. The Aircoach brand would of course not be suitable for the Matthews services as none are licensed to serve Dublin Airport.

    Sligo to Todmorden SailRail

The Translink Travel Centre never reopened following the pandemic, the Stena Line terminal is now the only place in Northern Ireland which can issue Rail and Sail tickets. This fare is correct. The add-on fares for Irish Rail travel have not changed in many, many years - since then there has...

Permanent closure of Belfast Great Victoria Street station

The Pret opened months ago. I'm pretty sure it was the first retail unit to open, indeed I think it opened a week or two before the trains started running again. It is operated as part of Pret Ireland rather than Pret UK and thus does not accept the half price coffee subscription.

    Detained by Carlisle Security

Merseyrail denying travel to "intoxicated" persons appears to be a recurring theme - to the extent that there have been several high profile cases of (sober) disabled people being denied travel, with staff refusing to back down even after being shown proof of disability.

TFL Oyster Fare I don't understand

Perhaps TFL have finally implemented the reduction in Railcard discount from 34% to 33.4% that was introduced in September?

Randomly charged £60 penalty fare on metrolink - no notification given??? Help.

In Northern Ireland, the Translink mLink mobile ticketing app prominently displays the time of activation on all tickets. In the Republic of Ireland, the TFI Go mobile ticketing app shows an overlay of "x seconds since activation" over the ticket for the first few minutes after activation...

Permanent closure of Belfast Great Victoria Street station

The locals are unhappy - or perhaps more accurately Billy Dickson, a well known sectarian mouthpiece, has told them they're unhappy - because the trains are to Dublin and Dublin is bad. They would not be complaining if the extra trains terminated at Portadown, despite them still making the same...

    The 2024 US presidential election.

It's still mathematically possible for Harris to win, even if it's practically impossible. They are terrified of a repeat of the 2000 election fiasco.

    The 2024 US presidential election.

The process for amending the US Constitution is so onerous that it would be almost impossible to do this unless it was widely supported by the Democrats. I suspect the chances of the Democrats supporting such an amendment in the context of a likely Musk nomination is close to zero.

    Adding railcard to Oyster

A Network Railcard cannot be added to Oyster. You can buy paper Travelcards using it at a discount, and these are valid on Buses, Trams and the Underground just like any other Travelcard.

Permanent closure of Belfast Great Victoria Street station

Are the retail units in the station itself still open, or just those in the Great Northern Mall? They were all closed when I was there, but in hindsight it was quite late in the evening and they would have been closed for the evening by then even when the station was operational. I just assumed...
