Thanks CW.... thats really useful info. I'll get to Berko on my way to skiing at HH next week. It'll avoid the problem I had with the same journey this time last year with SWT; Waterloo to Southampton (R). You all might like to read about it on My Profile/Statistics.... Its a horror story. Maybe...
Ahhh bb21 (and MM), forgive me for being inexperienced in these things I'm only an occasional traveller. So could I pick the tickets up at, say, Amersham rather than Waterloo from where I'm travelling on December 4th ?
I'm afraid talk of 'Trainsplit', 'Evernote' and 'Web Clipper' is all news to me. In defence of SWT, their customer service did reply to an email, confirming that my booking ref was valid. I'm holding my breath for December 4th 2016 when I travel, that it works at the machine. But they didn't at...
Thanks all for that.... As the OP, I just looked at the TOC web site again from which I originally booked (https://www.southwesttrains.co.uk). I can't immediately see where I can log into an account in order to see a 'My Tickets' section.
If you don't get an email back after booking online, to confirm your booking, you could be in trouble. You need the booking reference to punch into the concourse machine to get your tickets. Two things on this occasion got me out of jail: 1. I'm not travelling till December 4th and 2. I had the...
As the OP, just a point of information for Master29, I didn't just go straight to small claims; I did write to SWT CS first but got the same rebuttal as the ticket office on the day i.e. the machine was working perfectly.
Since the hearing I've written briefly to the BBC and Which? consumer...
As OP here's a quick summary of the story so far to dispel some misunderstanding I'm reading here, followed by an update.
1 Waterloo station ticket machine: on-line prepaid outbound tkt not in tray; only return + receipt + curiously, receipt from previous transaction several minutes earlier...
The only other 'dimension' I (OP) can think of is my threat to use the small claims court if they failed to reimburse my single ticket voluntarily. So someone at SWT was feeing vindictive on that day perhaps ?
To 185: This Bulletin could be absolutely crucial to my case because it demonstrates that these machines are not invulnerable. It must be public information surely and not internally confidential. If you want to PM me a copy of this I'd be happy to provide my personal contact details; email or...
Before small claims contact with CS at SWT:
Dear Sirs
This is a claim for the refund of £39.40 from South West Trains; this was the fare paid, absolutely unnecessarily, for a single journey from London Waterloo to Southampton Central. I had already paid for the outbound and return journey...
Thanks to DaveN; your piece persuades me to drop it. But thanks too, to 185 who gives me some reason to believe that if I appealed it might succeed. Remember there was no outbound ticket given by the machine at Waterloo; simple. But 185, where do I go to get evidence of such machine...
My answer to Flamingo's question; yes I did contact CS although maybe shouldn't have mentioned my intention to go to small claims if they wouldn't reimburse my Waterloo - Southampton single. Here's the tickets I got out of the machine...... don't seem to be able to paste the pdf. Well there were...
