SWR will want to recover money owed. People lying when first stopped isn’t uncommon and won’t be a factor in offering you a settlement. What you do next is important.

Was your ticket physical or an E ticket? It sounds as if they’ve audited your account and there is nothing to investigate further. It’s just whether they come back with an admin charge (£120) plus an anytime single ticket price for that journey.
Have you tried to appeal the penalty fare? Doing so will pause the clock and hopefully you’ll receive a response which helps you pay it?

I’m guessing they’ve looked at all your short tickets and not a single one was scanned for entry at Vauxhall which obviously meant you came from further. They can also check the gateline compliance on those dates you supposedly came from Vauxhall and they will prove the gates were in operation...

Her rail card is digital so very likely she received an alert. When mine was due to expire I received one.
Your daughter would have received an email alerting her to the rail card soon to be expiring.
Anyone can use rail cards. you don’t need to prove you have one to buy tickets ( online or at tvm’s ) Your daughter probably has it selected in her filters when purchasing tickets.
