    EWR, Universal and Wixams

Does anyone have an exact coordinate/latlong/w3w of where Wixams will be built? I always understood it to be in one location (52.0832663, -0.4889023, ie just off the B530)... until a load of houses were suddenly built there!

Clearing the Air - RDG Report

Presumably, though presumably there would be no discount on the Thameslink part, so the price would be "Whatever the Advance fare of LNER is plus standard Anytime/Off Peak for the Thameslink part" - ie for the Thameslink part I would pay the same amount regardless of whether I buy as part of the...

Clearing the Air - RDG Report

The Campaign For Better Transport regularly do these comparisons too. I'd love to see a comparison using "not a city centre" to a city centre, as this is the way most people travel. For example my house (nearest station Flitwick, about 3 miles away) to Edinburgh. To use the train I'd have to...

    EWR, Universal and Wixams

First I've heard of this too. The HoP website is still live and the planning approval has been given. Praise the lord! I drive from Ampthill to MK every day and that junction is just a mess. AIUI, if the station development is cancelled now, then the entire (six million??) pounds from the...

No trains to call at Altnabreac for the foreseeable future

What exactly did you have in mind with your big pair of balls? Maybe sending in a couple of uniformed guards to rough them up a bit?

    EWR, Universal and Wixams

But, Wixams as it will currently be built, is a half-arsed job with many sacrifices to rail service, infrastructure flexibility, and land use simply to meet the s106 deadline and get anything built there. This includes not stopping any trains there from 10pm every night, and many weekends.

    EWR, Universal and Wixams

I did consider suggesting the new Thameslink service to Universal kept the path and stopping pattern of the fourth train until Flitwick then went off to Universal (instead of Bedford) but that increases journey time from London to Universal. You're right about the west side joining onto the...

    EWR, Universal and Wixams

If you had carte blanche with the area around Kempston Hardwick/Wixams and with the EWR project in the back of your mind, what would you do and why? I see two options (other than the status quo, which will probably involve shuttle buses from Bedford/Flitwick to the park) 1 a) Build Wixams as...

Trivia: Biggest date gap between openings of two stations with a direct service

    How about Edge Hill (15 September 1830) to Warrington West (16 December 2019) - that's 189 years, 3 months, 1 day.

GTR employee bids to visit all 2,580 GB railway stations in 6 weeks

And the Tweet says "Final total is 2542/2580" - so 38 missed. These could be ones like IBM Halt, Teesside Airport, etc which are impossible to complete currently, but there's not 24 of these "closed but not closed" stations currently. Could it be ones which are really tricky, like Shippea Hill...

GTR employee bids to visit all 2,580 GB railway stations in 6 weeks

Congrats to you, Dave! Will you share the final route to see how I might be able to improve mine down to 42 or less days? Also which 14 stations were missed?

GTR employee bids to visit all 2,580 GB railway stations in 6 weeks

I usually do a few days in advance (see also the April 2024 attempt which hasn't started yet but has about 4 days pre planned already) and then once I know I'm going to complete that day and get back to the intended sleeping point, plan another day. I started off planning the whole route in...

New station: Wixams, Bedfordshire. Planning approved

I am proposing that one (12 car) Thameslink train an hour goes to St Pancras, St Albans, Luton/Parkway, then Universal via a new connecting piece of track between Stewartby and Kempston Hardwick village - ie doesn't go to Bedford. Kempston Hardwick (renamed Universal Studios Park or whatever)...

New station: Wixams, Bedfordshire. Planning approved

I agree that if Wixams goes ahead in its current form (two platforms only, limited hours only) it will not be sufficient for Universal, should that go ahead. The location also would require shuttle buses to get to the park entrance. How about instead letting Wixams go ahead as planned and use...

GTR employee bids to visit all 2,580 GB railway stations in 6 weeks

My desktop exercise has just been completed, for the first time, in 45 days. https://railrace.mauldenvillage.org.uk/?version=14 Given this is the 8th full version, and the previous record was 47 days, I do think it will be hard to shave off another three whole days, but definitely doable...
