The pick up only at Clapham jn on trains away from Waterloo late in the evening make little sense to me. It’s not like those trains are full to bursting.

In my experience in these situations is the gate line staff just generally wave people through no matter what you explain on the gate. Implication is that permission has been given.

Jut a quick one, can split tickets be used on a service where the changeover of validity from one ticket to the next is a pick up only service. So eg. Service from station A to station C with a single from A to B and the return portion of a B to C ticket where the stop at B is pickup only.
