The slow line and diversion will have been because of the two track railway after 10pm. One set of lines is closed every night from 10pm-5am for maintenance.
But I agree, service recovery on both Avanti and LNR are pretty poor. Things have improved since the London Midland days but still...
After a certain date (that escapes me), all new build third rail trains were required to have a pantograph well and passive provision for conversion to AC. All the 444s and 450s have a well too.
The 378s have just been purchased by TfL. They’re now owned outright by them. So the refresh program could start up again, or be delayed even further due to the extra cost in purchasing the fleet.
Including the station starter at Wembley, there’s 5 signals.
They’re lacking in signals going the other way from Wembley, with only one at each platform and none in between except on the approach to Harrow.
Is there demand for it? Tring already gets 4 tph.
There’s also Euston - Watford Junction empties to form a morning peak service back into town which could run in service but only to save having to detrain the previous service at Euston, there’s not enough passenger demand for it otherwise.
I’m in the exact same boat as you. However, when I click on the application on the DB portal it comes up with something like “an error occurred, try again later”
