Anyone know what work is going on south of the Oxted tunnel just past the M25 bridge? There is a very permanent looking and substantial temporary site set up (cabins, parking etc.) plus safe access walkways being set up alongside the line and the like.
The 7.15 Uckfield service from Hurst Green was still six carriages so standing all the way to LBG.
The return I wanted at 10.08 from LBG was cancelled so not a great start if you ask me.
Onwards and upwards hopefully
Also relating to the bridge can anyone confirm why it is longer than required i.e. there seems to be space at the 'town' end for more tracks to pass underneath, is this a long term plan?
So are we agreed, no Victoria - Manchester service? I thought it seemed unlikely
I like the idea that it was just 'standard' as part of the manufacture, perhaps the same spec was delivered around London to allow for the Waterloo and East Croydon services mentioned above.
Thanks for all...
Back when they still had the flip over train indicator boards at Victoria I was always intrigued that Manchester was shown as a destination.
Was there ever a regular direct (via Clapham Junction and West London Line?) service from Victoria to Manchester and if so why and when did it cease?
Indeed, there was a very handsome black steam loco lurking outside the other side of the station on Tuesday morning with some very posh (and named) Pullman carriages. Not sure if my travelcard would be valid on that one!
Thanks for the quick reply, I must admit I prefered my slightly romantic view of a steam train puffing gently underneath however far fetched it seemed.
The mystery is solved
Cheers
Above the lines to platforms 18 and 19 there are large vent ducts which terminate into three cowls per line at roughly each end of a eight car train length plus in the middle with the rectangular open cowls having rubber/neoprene skirts around them.
Every time I see them I wonder if they are...
