Trivia - Furthest away you can see a train?

Emley Moor was the first thing I thought of. You can see it from the Penistone Line and the Hallam Line. Definitely viewable from a number of stations on the Penistone line.

Most unusual/unexpected unit allocation you’ve been on?

Whilst I myself have never had any unusual traction on a route, I do remember reading this on Railcar: https://railcar.co.uk/images/uploads/101/800/class-101-dmu-1450356073-800.jpg A sandite set working a passenger service from Macclesfield to Manchester in 1998. I think that's got to be...

lostwin - BR in the mid 80's

I like how this one has a, "is it real or is it a Bachmann model?" quality to it!

Stations with modernised Platform Lights, Clocks and other modern items that didn't survive?

Dunford Bridge? Re-sited as a new build in 1954, concrete light posts etc. Closed in 1970.

Commuter seat choices - interesting observation

My seating preferences would be: 1) A seat going backwards to direction of travel. 2) A window seat I prefer airline seats to tables, I don't want people sat opposite me if I can help it. Then earphones in, book in hand or window to look out of and switch off completely from all others...

Weird Places for Services to Terminate

There's a Sunday service which operates from Retford to Meadowhall.

who or what got you into railways and what was your first kop/haulage

No idea what the first train I went on was. I would guess that it would have been a first gen DMU sometime in 1986, probably a 114, 111 or 101. It might even have been a Craven's for all I know. Whatever was running around Retford in the late 80s.

    Navvy Questions

One of my 3x great grandfathers was recorded on his marriage cert. in the mid-1850s as a 'Railway Labourer' in Yeovil. I've often wondered if he was a navvy. I think he later became a quarryman and ended up in London by the 1860s. They were dirt poor I know that much!

Most ridiculous things that passengers complain about.

I once overheard a passenger being disappointed that the 150 they were on didn't have a buffet.

[Trivia] How many stations still have wooden platforms?

Silkstone Common, Berry Brow and Dodworth?

    1st gen DMU movement

That was refreshing. God how I miss first gen DMUs.

    1st gen DMU movement

Yes 107s had structural concerns too, according to the Railcar website, there were fears that heavy braking would see structural failure leading to the body detaching from the underframe. I suspect the 108 issues were similar, albeit alloy degradation rather than steel. The Hyde Junction crash...

Driving behaviour when emergency vehicles are approaching.

At some red lights the ambulance could be sat there for two minutes or so, maybe even longer.
