Tyne & Wear Metro and Ferry: Best Ticket.

The metrocars are powered by 1500V DC whereas Preston to Blackpool is 25kV AC, so incompatible. They are being replaced as they are life expired and unreliable.

Virgin advance tickets on 8th April

Thanks janb. I'm looking for advance tickets from Edinburgh to Preston on 8th April from 2pm onwards and was finding the same problem. 19th February is quite a while away, I'll put that in the diary to re-check. Do you know if TPE as well as Virgin release on the same day for this route?

Badly Timed Connections (Reality Or Conspiracy?)

Changing at Carlisle to go on the Tyne valley always seems badly timed. Quite often when you arrive off Tyne Valley there is a pendo on the platform, but the doors are locked before the pacer comes to a stop.

    Carlisle York routing

You have to love our fares system. A Preston to Newcastle off peak return costs £69.20 and is valid via both York and Carlisle. Essentially, you can make Preston, York, Newcastle and Carlisle a big square, yet travelling from top left to bottom right (Carlisle to York) is significantly less...

Thank you for the responses - like someone said, the idea of York - Manchester, then Manchester to Blackburn then Blackburn to Preston then Preston to Lancaster just seems a bit strange. Where is it documented in the routeing guide you have to use all the maps? It does seem bizarre that York -...

    Lancaster to Newcastle

Hi, I need to go from LAN to NCL (return), leaving tomorrow coming back on Saturday. I can't be specific with my times, so the anytime return £47.40 is what I'm going for. I need to come back late on Saturday and I recall the last train south from carlisle is quite early, so had a look what the...

    MSE split ticketing app

Seems a good start and better than going manually on brfares.com and playing the game yourself. Someone mentioned "other" split-ticketing engines - are there any?

What's the Newcastle to Carlisle line like?

The line serves affluent villages and towns in the Tyne Valley, so even after a football game I doubt there would be any chance of trouble or unsavoury people on the train. I've traversed this line many a time with my laptop for example with no issues.
