Because I just got on a Liverpool bound train at Hunts Cross from platform 2 for the first time ever.
I’m guessing it’s got a lot to do with the 2x 777s currently occupying platform 3.

As I remember it, when the third rail was cut back within Kirkby station there was a temporary arrangement put in place where 50x were allowed to turn back at Kirkby, but had to obtain permission from the signaller first. This arrangement was withdrawn...

Sounds about fight with Northern not being able to able to organise a pish up in a brewery at the moment. The 4 car 331s will be on the twice hourly Wigan to Liverpool services while the chat moss route is stuck with crush loaded 323s. We're getting a couple of extra peak trains tho. Whoopee.

I meant the rest of the 3rd rail at Kirkby station..but I've since remembered that the traction switch towards Liverpool happens on approach to Kirkby, so I doubt they'll remove any more.
