Day in Tokyo. Advice for an out and back Shinkansen please?

Follow-up:- filled with confidence based on the information in your posts, we headed from the airport (Haneda, the closer to Tokyo of the two) to Shinagawa and got a Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka. We did a couple of round trips back to Kyoto, one so I could visit the railway museum which is very good...

Day in Tokyo. Advice for an out and back Shinkansen please?

Enroute to Aus via Tokyo in a couple of days and thought we'd delay the onward flight so as to ride a bullet. This is a short notice trip (former airline staff, using risky standby tickets so we can make impulsive decisions like this) so no research has been achieved. Flights arrive and depart...

    Rail travel in Sicily?

For closure - and thanks again for the input - we did as much of the Circumetnea as possible, which involved the Catania Metro to Nesima, then bustitute to Paterno. The bus paralleled the track alignment for some of the way and much of the track had been lifted. Train from Paterno to Randazzo...

    Rail travel in Sicily?

A short trip coming up to the east side of the island. Can anyone recommend some nice rail journeys? Apparently there's a narrow gauge which almost completely circumnavigates Mt. Etna.

LNER did it, first class no less, for "Lets Go Round Again".

Final XC HST (1627 Plymouth - Leeds) 18/09

Ex PLY, 1st was about 60% full, most being enthusiasts. A handful joined at EXD. We bailed at TVP and I'd be interested to hear whether it becomes busier than usual further north

    CrossCountry double booked seats

That's encouraging. I seem to recall reading of cases where someone with a reserved seat A to D finds someone else gets on at B with a ticket for the same seat, to C. I seem to recall ongoing debate about it. There might be more people than usual that day, being the last day of HST service, but...

    CrossCountry double booked seats

Having read that XC does this, what is my best argument next Monday if I find my reserved 1st class seats Tiverton - Plymouth - Tiverton are occupied by someone else with a "valid" claim?

HST vehicles at Yarmouth Docks for export to Mexico

Assuming the whole network is standard gauge, there is already a rail link from the destination port to at least one station on the Tren Maya network. The ship docks down the coast from the new Tren Maya line. 1694087091 The gulf crossing from the US to the southern end of the Yucatan...

"Only in AIS range. Once it's circa 100miles offshore, it won't be trackable. So you'll have it until its west of Ireland and then as it navigates the Gulf" This site does the job:- https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/shipid:6280144/zoom:10

which seat is best in the house on XC HSTs?

East side for the views of the estuaries/sea in Devon. Table seat, assuming it is window-aligned, gives a better panoramic view. I like to be towards the rear of the carriage, so as not to have a bulkhead breaking up the view.
