From personal experience EMT HR are pretty poor, whether this is due to staff shortages and/or overwork I don't know but it does render them quite inefficient, therefore I'd be inclined to send a polite email every couple/few weeks just to keep the lines of communication open and remind them...
Put in another application specific to this role, don't risk losing the opportunity. As your original application got through the sift for Snr Conductor it was obviously good enough but look at it objectively and try to improve it wherever you can, sometimes just by changing the odd word can...

Looks like LM recruitment hold is over for conductors and drivers then, new drivers starting soon and now this.......good news for those looking for a new role in 2015
Totally agree with this comment - from a business point of view employing an 'older' person might just give a much better return on the investment put in.
And if that's the case then it's only right and proper to promote internally. But a good HR Dept (Manager) should have been in liaison with its operational managers to ascertain that information before advertising externally. An internal campaign would have highlighted the interest and saved...
