You can nearly always see at least one DRS loco laying over in those sidings (at least you could up to the Covid problem). This has been the case for many moons and in summer a WCR loco also appeared on occasion as a back up for any failures on the Scarborough steam excursions.
The memory's a bit fuzzy on this subject but I do remember telling Mr Huskisson to stay in his seat when the train stopped but he knew better and got walloped by a rocket or something!
Whilst the circumstances are different, there are similarities with the Ealing disaster of December 1973.

Unlikely ash39, too many lines to cross to access and leave the avoider with the attendant conflicts to the many other services using the station. I would think the avoider has a low speed limit for any passenger trains. A non-stop at York train (of which the southbound Flying Scotsman is the...
Apparently a man detained under the Mental Health Act after being on the tracks at Durham station. Total shut down of services using this part of ECML from circa 11.40am. Northbound trains held at York were cleared to resume their journeys from about 1.15pm - seems a long time taken to detain...
Wow! That's something from the past. Great days, great trips, great camaraderie. Can still see Ray Hawley from Goostrey with his Tizer bottle and C B Brown from Cornholme. I think there was a Mr Smith also who arranged the Crewe Works visits. A super club for enthusiasts across the North. Don't...
The Signalling Record Society used to publish British Railways Layout Plans of the 1950's from the John Swift Collection. Whilst not being so 'professionally' produced as Quail, they are nevertheless very detailed and well worth having if you can find them. Examples of the titles are seen at...

In 1981 the Woodhead line was closed east of Hadfield. In December 1984 the remaining section was converted to the standard 25 kV AC overhead system and the Class 506 EMUs were withdrawn following the last run on 7 December. Following withdrawal, unit 59404-59504-59604 was...
Barnetby's famous semaphores look likely to be going soon. Plenty to choose from there methinks.

Interesting picture sheff1 but as all Cravens units were withdrawn by 1988, it makes the picture circa a quarter of a century old minimum. Tempus fugit or what! The platforms seem very cluttered with equipment in those days. According to Wikipedia, BRUTES went out of use in 1999.
As far back as I can remember this arrangement has been there and there has never been platform activity on the 'short' sides. Platforms 3 and 4 which form the outer 'legs' are quite lengthy and are in fact now known as 3,3A and 4, 4A to provide more platform accommodation, generally housing...
You may find this site to be of interest Euryalus. It is in the process of being revamped but the basics are there.

First Scotrail and TPE are excellent TOCs and I see you have amended your opinion on FGE. In fact, First has done pretty well overall.
All in all ushawk, I fear you have hoisted yourself on your own petard!
Barnetby (near Grimsby). Good flow of freight to and from Immingham Dock
