    Engines needing to be pre-heated

Is the engine/engines used to provide power rotated by the driver (eg. running the engines furthest from the buffer stops), automatically via the Train Management Computer or the same engine/engines each time?

    Engines needing to be pre-heated

Are there any restrictions if the train needs to be moved under power with the single engine? For example, does the catering equipment need to be switched off, or the air conditioning output reduced?

    Engines needing to be pre-heated

Is there a way in which this can be achieved without another engine running or a shore supply? I'm assuming not as it'd take a large amount of energy to achieve that and I can't imagine the battery would be able to supply it. How long following shutdown would the engine temperature drop below...

Question: Number of staff onboard a train

Not a bad guess on from me then. One or two catering staff seems very short staffed indeed! Was there a reason for this level of ticket checking? Presumably the service wasn't staffed like this every day?

    Engines needing to be pre-heated

How many train engines require some sort of pre-heating consideration before starting? I have seen videos of old locos cold starting and taking a while to get going, throwing out loads of clag in the process! I've also seen videos of Sprinters, Turbostars etc. being left in a platform shutdown...

    LNER Class 91/Mk4 service status/withdrawals

That makes sense in order to reduce the delays incurred. Which yard are they storing them in now? I know there's another yard on the right hand side as you head in the Sheffield direction, the sets having previously been stored on the left hand side. I think the other yard was full of coal...

Azuma Power Sockets - no power through neutral sections

Sorry, I meant the unpowered vehicles in the 9-car set in that sentence but failed to mention 9-car in it

How long has the ECML had 14 HST's?

Thank you for the comprehensive information 43074. I remember the days of GNER and the GNER HST interior but was too young to pay attention to these details at the time (I think I was 12 when GNER ended!) and there doesn't seem to be that much information online so I am grateful for these...

Azuma Power Sockets - no power through neutral sections

That is a good point, I guess it must be because a static converter is..well...static so has no moving parts. They do have a very distinctive sound on Mark 4 coaches though. It seems sensible to locate the static converter in the same box as the traction converters. On a 5 car IET/Azuma...

Question: Number of staff onboard a train

The question on the FOI asked for catering and staffing so i'm thinking not. I'm happy to be proven wrong though

Azuma Power Sockets - no power through neutral sections

You can hear the static converter on each Mark 4 coach from both the inside and the outside. These convert the Electric Train Supply feed (1000V AC or DC) to 400V AC three phase for the air conditioning, and 230V single phase for single phase loads, plus battery charging (110V?). There was a...

Question: Number of staff onboard a train

How are LNER services usually staffed (In non-COVID 19 times that is)? According to a Freedom of Information request last year, the following numbers of staff are present on Azuma trains: =179575&hash=207b65c3194b5c09c6afa3b921cc719d']Attach files For a nine coach formation, I'm thinking...

Toilet facilities currently on trains and in stations?

That's not as bad if they are opened up on request. Still a bit of a pain to have to go and find a member of staff to use a toilet though.

Toilet facilities currently on trains and in stations?

I think it's bad enough when station toilets are closed before the end of service as it certainly is not customer friendly. What about if a train is delayed or the train's onboard toilet is locked out of use, or if it doesn't have one in the first place! But from what others have said it's even...

Bi-mode and electric 5-car Azumas working in multiple on the Harrogate service

Interesting stuff, it looks like they have more than enough power to cope then from that information. I doubt they'd diagram such a combination if 100 Mph diesel running was needed but for lower line speeds they seem to do the job. I agree, 22 x 5 Car Bi-Modes instead of 10 x 5 Car Bi-Modes...
