Fare Dodgers on Heritage / Independent Railways

I doubt it's much of an issue. Most heritage railways don't really run on commutes or busy routes between large urban centers. Most run on scenic routes and I doubt people who would want to look at some lovely scenery on a heritage railway would dodge a fare.

Northern Rail Fine Warning: Failure to produce railcard at kiosk

Hey, Sorry I'm a bit late replying, I've been all over the place for the last few days with uni work. The letter is from Northern Rail stating that they intend to seek a fine of up to £1,000 from me for being in breach of ToC for not carrying a railcard. I'm not sure about whether I'd...

Northern Rail Fine Warning: Failure to produce railcard at kiosk

Yeah. They still gave me the ticket but they wouldn't hand it over to me until I'd given them some information which they used for the fine they sent me. I honestly thought very little of it at the time. I thought they were just checking my details against the transaction on the system or...

Northern Rail Fine Warning: Failure to produce railcard at kiosk

Yes. This one is valid between 14/08/2015 and 13/08/2015. The only thing was that I didn't have the card when I picked up the ticket. I did travel with the card the next day though. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Yeah. It's kind of half-and-half. The barrier sits about halfway...

Northern Rail Fine Warning: Failure to produce railcard at kiosk

The letter is pretty similar to the previous one I got. I think they have a copy and paste one for these things. They've accused me of 'failure to present a railcard at the request of a Revenue Protection Officer when attempting to travel on a Northern Rail service.' Curious, given that...

    Problem with Northern Refund

Weird that they wouldn't give you a refund on the day. I've shown up to canceled trains for an hour ahead of me and managed to get a refund for an anytime before.

Northern Rail Fine Warning: Failure to produce railcard at kiosk

Hi all, So a few years ago I came to you guys with some Northern Rail woes and luckily it was all sorted out and I dodged a £1,000 bullet. However, once again I'm under the radar and I'm not too sure whether Northern Rail have much of a case this time, but they've decided to try and pursue...

Getting on at a later station?

Cheers for the info. I've always found it a little curious that train journey prices aren't determined by distance...

Getting on at a later station?

Afternoon all. So basically, I was told at short notice that my friend is throwing a party in Manchester in two days time. I checked the train prices from Rugby to find that they were too much to justify a single day journey. As I was closing tabs, I noticed something on The Trainline: London...

    Northern Rail faredodging letter recieved

Right. I was a bit fed up of waiting for a response, so I rang up their prosecutions team today. After asking a few questions, they dug up my file and told me that, after reading it, they'd decided to close the case with no action other than a verbal warning about checking my railcard was valid...

Northern Rail: The most cynical TOC out there?

I think I find it more striking because for the first 20 years of my life, I never really used public transport. I boarded at school so never bore witness to the infamous schoolbus, and outside of University, I tend to drive everywhere (splitting petrol between two or three people tends to be...

Ahah, I put that? I meant ticket! Freudian slip I guess :p

    Northern Rail faredodging letter recieved

Nope, I used the standard freepost. I'll send them an email tomorrow? I guess it could take up to six weeks for them to get back to me. That's how long they took to respond to the issue. My main hope for what's going to happen is they see that - This is a first time offence - The journey...

Northern Rail: The most cynical TOC out there?

Yeah. At home, 90% of the services to my nearest town are London Midland, and here the vast majority are Northern Rail. Mauldeth road is pretty much a commuter station. If I ever travel from my home station to Mauldeth, I take a Cross Country train which travels past Mauldeth to Piccadilly, at...

Northern Rail: The most cynical TOC out there?

They get people done for not having a ticket on the train? Whenever I've travelled there's been Northern Rail Guards selling tickets at Piccadilly. In fact, If I hadn't bought a picket I wouldn't have got a letter through the post about Faredodging.
