    Greater Anglia - Trainee Mainline/Depot Driver - Various (12/04/24)

Yes I am mainline now. When I was in the depot it was a mixture of earlies, lates and nights. Shunting trains from the sidings to a platform and vice versa. Coupling/uncoupling, washing and preparing trains. Making a yard plan for maintenance requests and for the morning start up service.

    Greater Anglia - Trainee Mainline/Depot Driver - Various (12/04/24)

It really depends on instructor availability and how much “wheels turning” you have in your depot’s diagrams. I did my rules & 225 hours in 10 months not rushing.

    Greater Anglia - Trainee Mainline/Depot Driver - Various (12/04/24)

I cannot speak for Norwich as different part of company, but I enjoyed being a depot driver. Best job I ever had. If there wasn't such a pay disparity would have stayed doing it. Nothing has changed since 2019 Training facilities at Stratford & Norwich

    ASLEF strikes W/c 6th May

I will give an anecdotal example of how this pay deal is not acceptable. If by some happenstance I was rostered every bank holiday and worked them I would get paid overtime. Under the proposed arrangements I would not. 4% uplift would be considerably less than what I had before. So in effect I...

My T&Cs have not changed. That is an achievement.

DHELM: Why are UK railways so bad?

GA and c2c have better PPM than Swiss railways as far as I can see.

    Greater Anglia - Trainee Mainline/Depot Driver - Various (12/04/24)

If you do well as a depot driver 3-5 years is a more realistic timescale for going on the mainline. The job can involve quite a bit of walking. There is a POSSIBILITY recruitment to the mainline may go back to depot driver progression only on Anglia & Great Eastern.(Not the West). Just the...

    Greater Anglia - Trainee Mainline/Depot Driver - Various (12/04/24)

Depot qualified is 30945. Mainline is 46k qualified first year then 52677. RDW availability varies wildly. These days not so much about. Depots are well staffed at present.

    Greater Anglia - Trainee Mainline/Depot Driver - Various (12/04/24)

West is 51106 Ex anglia is 51884…I think Former great eastern is 52677 These all go up in various stages after qualifying. East is 46k for a year or 200 turns after passing out, whichever comes first. I don’t know about the other two.

Avanti Qualified Drivers - Euston, Wolves and Liverpool (06/03/2024)

GA Great eastern have floating spare weeks. 1 in 8. Roster clerks are usually good though and try to give a line with 2 rest days instead of 1.

Clacton on Sea Trainee Depot Driver

Yes most likely same shift all week on your booked work. Probably have one or two spare weeks every rotation. Normal spare movement is up to 3 hours, variable spare completely changeable (including your rest day). Most of leave is allocated. Work 8 weeks on 2 weeks off in rotation. 5 floating...

Training 29998 Qualified 30945 Hasn’t changed since 5 years ago that’s how I remember! I was at a different depot but shift are probably something like 0600-1400 1400-2200 1800-0200 2200-0600 or very similar Think it took me about 4 months to pass out but that was with a gap over Christmas...

    differing annual leave - SWR

GA great eastern is 25 + 8 on a 4 day week that isn’t a 4 day week. Only get to pick 5 of those, rest are allocated into 2 week periods every 8 weeks. Which is actually very nice.

Guards on Greater Anglia trains these days.

Southminsters still have conductors for revenue and PRM duties. Driving is all DOO. Braintrees do not.
