    Loud AC on modern trains

In modern offices, the trendy ones without ceilings with all the conduits exposed, it's amazing how many different noises air conditioning systems make. Hissing, clapping, banging, all quite common

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Interesting. Mine doesn't and it was only fitted out last year. Maybe it's a nice to have not a must have.

Would / could manual doors comply with accessibility requirements? That said, I've never seen an accessible toilet in a building with anything other than a manual door.

Cross Country Boxing Day 2026 consultation

Indeed, although as soon as I posted I realised I should have referred to football in general. I myself usually travel to National League South games on Boxing Day, there are fixtures up and down the pyramid.

Cross Country Boxing Day 2026 consultation

Boxing Day is a major day of travel. The Premier League usually has a full set of fixtures, Boxing Day sales etc. Is there a risk that a limited service would be swamped due to the latent demand. Perhaps they will need to make all services mandatory reservations only?

The guidance note on gov.uk also includes a graphic logo, make of it as you will

    GBR branded rolling stock

I've just scrolled through the home pages of both and neither feature a flag even once. Likewise American business might fly their flag at their physical sites but when did you last see the stars and stripes feature as part of Apple's branding. Sorry but this GBR branding is lazy, uninspiring...

    GBR branded rolling stock

Because it's not unique, innovative, or creative. Name a single successful business that has a flag as part of its branding. There isn't one.

    GBR branded rolling stock

Sigh. Is it really necessary to wedge a (cropped) Union Flag into the design? The GBR logo is extremely plain as well. I wonder if the Government has used a branding agency or poorly attempted to devise the brand itself.

Train delayed to enable customer connections

I was mulling this over last night as I saw GWR were holding a Portsmouth Harbour at Westbury for the same reason. I've been repeatedly frustrated at TfW for not holding a Cheltenham Spa service for a single minute at Severn Tunnel Junction to avoid a 59 minute delay for everyone changing...

I'd be very surprised if it's the aircon as the sound comes from under the floor and does not seem to bear any relation to the temperature of the train e.g. the noise is still made in the winter. 1747592630 I've not encountered any issues on my weekly trips on 197s during the warm weather this...

    TfW language policy

Since the 197s were first rolled out, the announcements have gotten more succinct and to the point, dropping unnecessary pleasantries and repetition.

    TfW language policy

I'm not particularly bothered by announcements being made in Welsh first. It's not the most customer friendly but urgent announcements are usually made manually in English. The trains making announcements in Welsh whilst in England is a bit annoying but thankfully they've drastically cut down...

Surely a simple software update could automatically reactivate the HVAC when the train goes into service again?

How is everyone finding the temperature control on the 197s this year? I havent noticed any issues of late and 197123 was very pleasant in the 28° heat earlier. A stark contrast to the sweltering 166 I changed from
