The thing is... Even if training miraculously restarted post transition. We are now at a point where service reductions or expensive life extension works on the Class 455 are a near certainty. I don't think there's a conspiracy behind this.
Out of interest. Why is the direct Leeds to Aberdeen being removed?
How would Leeds crew retain route knowledge from Leeds - York - Newcastle (which I assumed was the biggest driver for retaining this service)?
Matthew Golton got the chop when TPE moved into DOHL, and he was immensely more capable than SWRs current offering. The current 'leadership' really need to go,. They have allowed a sense of managed decline to permeate right through the business.
And again, Guards do not have to release the doors on SWR 701. So in theory they can always egress from one door and walk to a suitable despatch position without delaying door release by moving internally.
And in fairness, Northern do not have the ability to despatch from the cab in 195 / 331s. So in crush loaded trains they always have to use the vestibule. I know it's not ideal but given that DOGC is a temporary measure (one hopes), why can't SWR guards join their Northern colleagues, if there...
I would suggest that a tensa barrier around a vestibule, situated towards the centre of the train (where it is most optimum for dispatch), could be a temporary mitigation? Not ideal as you are restricting capacity and the ability for people to move throughout the train. But surely this must be...
And sure, my suggestion was a finger in the air exercise to mitigate against this incident (and thus I accept criticism for it's practicality), but it does raise an important fact that there does not seem to be a driver vigilance or 'dead mans' device capable of assessing the drivers attention...
Something I picked up from a previous report (and you'll have to forgive me as I don't have it to hand, but I believe it to be a Northern Line Trap and Drag) - explores some detail on the failure for LUL management to identify, investigate and report the incident, to the consequence that all...
I come to find LUL RAIB reports to generally be jaw dropping affairs. So many people not doing their jobs correctly: complacency runs deep in that organisation.
