I'm planning a little day out in April, and we are thinking of parking at Hillingdon, and catching the tube into Central London.

I've checked and it doesn't co-incide with anything at Wembley Stadium,

On a 'regular' Saturday, is there usually parking space at Hillingdon? I presume it's pretty chocker in the week, is it OK at weekends?

Can't speak for Hillingdon but the car park just further down the line at Rayner's Lane had plenty of space so I suspect Hillingdon will too

When I used Hillingdon semi regularly there always seemed to be a space in the main station car park, on a Saturday I personally wouldn't worry too much :)

Used Hillingdon station car park many times on Saturdays and Sundays. Never had a problem finding a space. Charges reduced at weekends as well so not even worth street parking either.

You could use Ickenham station, this has been very quiet on previous visits.

Yeah, Ickenham would be my 'Plan B'- parking at Ickenham is the same price as Hillingdon, and almost as convenient.

I guess I'm just dreading getting all the way to London, and finding both car parks rammed

Were your 'previous visits' on a weekday or weekend, can I ask?

On Weekdays we always go to Ickenham; it's cheaper. On Weekends Hillingdon as the same price. Hillingdon is busier on the weekend, but getting a space should not be a challenge.

Many thanks. Between Ickenham and Hillingdon, we should be able to park, then.

Can I ask another, which doesn't really seem to justify another thread.

Does anyone know the rough frequency of the Picadilly line trains, the ones that go direct to South Kensington? IIRC they are less frequent than Met line trains on that section.

I need to decide whether to get on the first train, regardless, or to wait for a Picadilly line train.

Every 20mins, 5-10min M-F peak.
(no service before 06:45 M-F, 08:45 SAT/SUN and after 23:20 M-Sat, 23:00 SUN)

I knew this had been discussed before! Found it..

As you are doing this during the week, go for Ickenham. It is just down the road from Hillingdon (indeed when coming off the A40 you drive past Hillingdon station), and for the extra ~3 Min drive is only £3.50 to park instead of the £5 at Hillingdon.

I parked there on Tuesday, arriving around 10am and you'll have no trouble getting parked at any time of the day.

For others reading this looking for parking, if doing it on a weekend, or bank holiday, you might as well use Hillingdon as both stations charge £1 on weekends, and Hillingdon is closer. But during the week I'd definitely recommend Ickenham to save £1.50 given it's no hassle at all to get to compared to Hillingdon; just keep driving along Long Lane and turn right into Glebe Avenue just past the shops. The fare would be the same from both stations.

I would always advise taking the first train, and changing at Rayners Lane if the first train is a Met rather than a tube.

Car parking charges were revised in January;
Hillingdon now £6 M-F, £2 Sat, £1.50 SUN
Ickenham now £4 M-F, £2 Sat, £1.50 SUN

Ouch, a 100% rise on Saturdays. Although the simple fact is, a pound is a tiny fraction of what we will spend on diesel, food and tube fares so I think we'll still go for it...
