........ but you can change from / to the Underground at Marylebone !

And there are countless journeys where you would change at Man Picc.

Marylebone would probably be the most practical place to change if you were travelling from Harrow-on-the-Hill to stations between Denham and Princes Risborough.

Yes that was supposed to be my joke, but as you see above, I got it all wrong.

However, if someone nominates Falmouth Docks as an interchange......

(It was once of course).

Reading, the waiting area on P4 is nice and warm when waiting for the Basingstoke shuttle to come in (which always amazes me when people try and book it straight away without letting the passengers get off first).

Also for the sound of the HSTs departing

Many of the changes of train at Picc are on platforms 13 and 14 or same platform on one of these. For example I am a regular user of the Nottingham-Liverpool train and this has reasonable connections at Piccadilly for the Airport (usually cross platform), Blackpool and Llandudno (same platform).

Got to agree with the above two chaps,Sheffield Tap could be a destination in itself.....

Funnily enough, with the time off I've got between Christmas and New Year, we're thinking of going to Sheffield just to go to The Tap.

They have a fantastic range of beers, and even a menu for all of the bottles in their fridges. Plus a good view of the station.

On a related note I live in Retford but work in Nottingham, and as we had our work's Christmas do on Friday I went in by train, booked some digs and went back by train on Saturday (with the benefit of calling in "The Mallard", the real ale pub on Worksop Station. Well worth a visit!).

My journey meant going from Retford to Newark North Gate, walking to Newark Castle, then getting the train to Nottingham. I couldn't help thinking that Newark Castle has a lovely station building which appears to be unoccupied, and might make a nice pub. But as it's not really a junction station like Sheffield, or even Retford, is, would it be a good bit of business to open one there?

So my question is...which stations do you know that might be busy enough to sustain a business that would not only make money, but would enhance the area and be a local asset? Retford's now got a Costa, Worksop's got The Mallard, a photography studio and a dance studio on one platform, and also a cafe on the other platform. I know York's got numerous shops and the York Tap. Do you think your local station has redundant buildings that could turn a profit, and if so, in what way?

A good idea to broaden this topic a little! +1 :D

I always felt Taunton (my local a few years back) deserves more than a Pumpkin outlet, especially as that end of town as a whole was a little bit lacking for watering-holes. Might have improved in the few years since I was last there though.

I like Edinburgh Haymarket and Crewe, Haymarket has improved since the work on it finished and I like Crewe for the simple reason that it has traditional railway architecture for the covered areas of the platforms

I myself like Birmingham New St-there's just so much for enthusiasts to se, but it's a nightmare during rush hour! I'm also a big fan of All the London termini (bar Euston, Fenchurch St, Charing X, Cannon St and the Brighton half of Victoria; as they really are grim) for much the same reasons!
