Now upgrades have been done to Manton Junction?
Hi.
There was work at Manton Jn and indeed all the way from Peterborough to Syston a few years ago. That was all for more freight to use the route. Theres only been a handful of extra freights added since then.
As far as i can see, theres not much freight on the MML at the best of times. Freight moves like the Churchyard Ketton Cement from St. Pancras would still need to go via Leicester as theres no curve at Manton Jn to head back to Ketton.
Having said that, i did hear a rumour that they were considering making Manton a triangular junction. I think the main reason for doubling Kettering to Corby was panic if a train fails at Corby station and blocks the diversion route!

Making Manton junc, triangular is more than a rumour.
And if a triangle junction was made at Manton junction which was never there originally for some reason, If the old formation from East of Stamford was put back to the ECML via Belmesthorpe which would only involve a house and some bridge work on the formation save for reinstatement of track bed and signalling, access North from MML to ECML would be possible
