377 604 worked the 18.24 Seaford - Brighton tonight, in connection with football traffic to Falmer.

As far as I know, this is the first visit of a 5-car 377 to the branch, in passenger service.

Were the 6 cars used in full 6 car service? I only ask because when there is a snow plan in place, southern ran 6 cars but locked out 3 cars to do with on board staff? I can't remember the exact reason why though.

Given the need for extra capacity before/after the match, I should think locking one set OOU would be a bit counterproductive.

6 car 313s can run between Brighton and Lewes calling at Falmer only without locking a unit out of use. They do this most matches.

A snow plan has extra units to allow for more third rail pick up options. Since a 313 does not have SDO and some stations on the west coast cannot cope with more than 4 coaches, the rear 3 on a 313 get locked out. They can be used on football spcials via Falmer as Brighton,Falmer and Lewes can cope with all 6 coaches. The conductor travels in coach 4 (the cab of the second unit)

Thanks for that! No doubt I'll forget that and ask in a couple of years time! Thanks for the info though.

Anyway, could be worse. There are rumors that a 377 was sent on a trip from Clapham towards Watford this morning, but was found to be missing an important bit of kit while leaving the West london line.

Not long after I posted this, it was mentioned in the main forum.

Out of interest is there any reason that they have to travel in the 4th coach? Could they not use the 2nd / 3rd / 5th / 6th coaches (which all have door control panels)?

The train is very busy, so easier to travel in, and dispatch from, the cab

In case the train splits on route you have to be in the second unit.

The trains get very busy as well.

There was an 8 car on the Seaford branch last Saturday because of the Brighton v Norwich game, is this normal?
