The 47/8 on day 3 might well be changed as they've all returned to Burton-on-Trent, Riviera trains as i believe they're now off lease. Plus i understand GBRf still haven't sorted out a problem with 59003 that it can't get over 20mph, i hear, as it's at Eastleigh works now where their trying to rememedy it.

Bloody Hell, the 47 was the main reason I was tempted to book a ticket. Sure enough the 20's will be enjoyed but I'd be majorly disappointed if there's no 47 back. Sure it'll be sorted in time.(HOPES!!)

Most likely if nothing can be arranged with Rivera (who the stock is coming from so can't see a weekend hire of a 47 being an issue) UKRL may step in with a loco. Pure speculation of course and with spare compacity in the 73/9 fleet and the Scottish working 66/7 at the weekend I can't see a substitute being too much of an issue.

Another note on this tour, on which I'm booked (platinum :D) get your London hotels booked they are filling up already. Best level between price and quality I found was £98 for 2 nights in London for the Wednesday and Thursday and £32.50 for premier inn in reading on the Sunday, even with the extra travel miles that worked out cheaper for me and there an extra bit of tour mileage aswell.

The questions around Class 47s might seem logical given the off-leasing of the Riviera 47s, however rest assured we have a plan, and at this stage Day 3 is still the advertised traction.

That's nice to know as surprisingly i still require 47843/847 & 848 for haulage so personally i'm hoping it's one of those 3.

Yes, i know i've read the posts on another forum site i now know it'll be a Colas 47 seeing as the Riviera / GBRf examples have all gone off-lease and have now been purchased by ROG (Rail Operations Group) anyway.

See 47749 has been given a fresh lick of paint, pic I saw of it, it looked very smart indeed. Maybe just coincidence but could it be the chosen one for Sept 10th?

Anyone any the wiser which 20s will be used? Was hoping 901/905 but I'm sure I read elsewhere 901 needs new wheel sets, unless ofcourse this has been rectified by now.

All those coaches are mark 2s. I can't see the mark 1 kitchen coach though, which I've seen before with this rake.

It's easy - Mk3s have all the underfloor equipment hidden away inside a housing between the bogies, on Mk2s the equipment just hangs below the floor as individual bits and pieces (and Mk2s are shorter, 20m versus 23m). Mk3s also have ribbed roofs where the Mk2s have plain roofs.

Did anyone happen to see what the 1Z99 service was that we were following between Manningtree and Stratford? It's confused me no end, as we seemed to have been held up ever so slightly by it and yet it was put on the main lines.

This answers a question I was going to ask. I was on the UKRailtours steam charter with Tornado from London Victoria to Bridnorth on Thursday 08 September and as we were trundling around the west London Lines near Acton, we passed what I think must have been this tour. The first coach was an old Anglia one, along with ex Virgin and some BR Inter-City Blue & White carriages. There were two GBRF locos at either end. I just looked at the routing this train did to and from Swanage and it looked good.

imagine going to spot 1 rail tour and you see the 2 next to each other, that would have been good

That has happened to me a few times in fact, either I have been on one railtour and another has gone by in the opposite direction, another time I was at a station in Southwest London, when two steam charters went through within about 30 minutes of each other. I have also been at Carlisle on more than one occasion, me arriving on one steam charter and another was about to leave. :)
