For interest. Do EMT power cars make it to Aberdeen often. I know the Leeds - Aberdeen - London - Leeds diagram used to throw up EMT coaches from time to time but never noticed a power car.

During the Durham Coast diverts in January a full EMT set ran the diagram which starts 1S03 Leeds-Aberdeen three Saturdays in a row.

They just keep turning up on the Aberdeen/Inverness diagrams. I'd rather be on a Q400 from LCY.

Surprised to be honest they did it, where is the nearest fitter if it goes wrong in Scotland? But better than cancellation and a nice treat for traction bashers in the north.
probably not far away at all at craigintenny in edindurgh

But they will be MTU experts. The EMT systems on the vp185s will be different won’t they?
yeah different engines but with it being a level 5 hst depot and having extensive hst experience since they were introduced and being well familar with the original paxman engines im sure they would be more than up to the task.
im sure they must look after the hired in east midland power cars that are regulary hired in to east coast too.

Maintenance on hired in VPs isn’t done by Craigentinny - they go back to Neville Hill for that - but sure Craigentinny would cope better than you do with the shift key....

I believe he is alerting you to how you are not using any capital letters when posting on this thread; thus referring to how if you press the shift key when typing a letter it automatically becomes a capital letter. :D

We have two EMT sets on hire, one is on a fixed diagram on Sundays only I believe, and the other one can end up anywhere.

According to the Frequently Requested Diagrams thread, the ex EMT now fully repainted into Virgin livery (and refurbished with a Virgin interior - although the IC125 Seats remain) works mostly on the daily Hull services and some peak Leeds trains.

The other train is a hire in, EMT livery and interior and works Sunday only Leeds services.

Haha ok didnt really think it was important

Don’t worry, sometimes I can’t be bothered either! ;)

Do the hired in power cars not work trains with east coast stock also?

No. I've been told the hired in set that works Sundays comes straight off an ex STP-LDS working.
Ah ok i thought i seen them on east coast stock must of got mixed up.
whats the reason for hiring them poor class 91 reliability still?

No you haven’t got mixed up. It’s probably my fault for not being clear. As I said one set with VTEC livery and one EMT livery - only I think with the VTEC livery one it’s only the coaches, and so both sets use the EMT powercars.

That’s all right it’s actually my fault I forgot to tell you the powercars weren’t repainted! Don’t worry about it :p:D
Haha ok i take it the power cars wont be getting renumbered then due to the different engines

Not been repainted at all, it's just vinyl, in such a cheap and tacky way you can see the lower parts of EMT livery coming out from under the vinyl if you look hard enough  Typical VTEC.

Aw, come on - they’re a good company really, far better than whom they received that HST from, let me tell you!

Were there any more EMT hired workings yesterday?

Depends how you compare. They are both ultimately stagecoach. EMT is doing an excellent job compared with who they replaced and the services have improved. VTEC the frequency has improved but the quality has gone down. (Before anyone says about the new trains they were coming irrespective)

Yes ok, well I do have reasons to disagree but I am trying extra hard not to go off topic, so if you want to compare the two be my guest and create a new thread - I’ll be happy to talk to you on there. :D

Depends on what you judge on. Your criteria seems to be freebies in first class. (Which was got worse - many threads already about that) Mine is getting from A-B on time. VTEC Performance is shocking (although not helped by network rail to be fair) EMTs is better and the both have same issues with not enough aging rolling stock. The best performing HST I think was VTEC last time but the next modern railways assessment of that is due soon.

Back to topic. I suspect that hired set is unlikely to make it to Inverness itself. EMT want it back after the weekend. Considering that the other one gets into London circa 1000 it is unlikely to be used for the 1200 even in the worse disruption. Although hiring a power car may result in it end up in Inverness (has a hired XC on ever made it?)

If the engine needs fetlting the HST will go back to Neville Hill. I am sure Craigentinny will do anything else that turns up on a daily basis, feed and water it and get it ready for the next morning if required.

I recall the IC70 set with the full Virign livery creeping up on a few Aberdeen runs of late, most likely after coming up from Leeds the same morning. Aside from the topic of the thread where one made it up to Perth, one of the sets has made it up to Inverness previously, as there is a blog somewhere on the tinternet which shows it, which I'll hunt out. Edit: It's here

A XC set turned up on the Chieftain run once or twice when VTEC hired one in a few months back.

What workings does the ex-EMT set do on a Saturday? Before the May 2017 timetable change I think it did the 06:55 Skipton to London (07:38 off Leeds), the 11:33 London to Leeds and the 14:40 Leeds to London. So what does it do now?
