There were merely arches through the wall, both onto Platform 3 and to the ticket office in what was called the the Dundee corridor (from 3 to 2)...no celebration of entrance (before that pathetic travel office). Of course most people would arrive at the Glasgow Road end to the ticket office there, facing the Glasgow rd ramp, but if you knew what platform you wanted (ie for Dundee) you'd aim for that ticket office. You have to bear in mind that Perth was an open station with public routes fro St.Leonards bridge to Queen's Hotel area and back...some just passed through the station from St.L to Glasgow Road, used the Toilets, and maybe stopped for tea and a scone, to work in Dewar's Whisky Bond and offices and the nearby hospital, the rest was all signage to direct you. Personally, as a spotter, I cycled down Glover street (parallel with the outer freight avoiders) and carried my bike to Plat 4/5 at the South end...happy times as they say. There was also the magic South cafe on the bridge to amuse us in quiet times!
