In your opinion maybe, it is relevant to me and that is what a forum is for.

Not everything posted in it will be relevant or of interest to everyone using the forum, if it isn't just ignore it rather than post an irrelevant reply.

Yes thats what a forum is for but this thread is about trying to get a job as a signaller.
The other poster gave you a suggestion. Post a new thread in the relevant section. Sound advice. Take it.

To be fair, posting a list of open boxes will just disappear after endless amounts of posts push it further in the the abyss!

It would be better as a separate post, or a sticky.

The issue is, there is no longer a list of proposed closure dates for all boxes. NR are looking at it CP by CP, and it’s internal only.

Someone could do a FOI I guess?

Looks like I'm getting an interview for grade 5 Bognor Regis.

Any info on the box, shift pattern etc appreciated. Thanks.

Does anyone know what shift patterns are like at dullingham and if there are any planned closures I have accepted a job offer on a 12 month ftc although was told at interview it would be a minimum off 23 months does this then mean it's due to close around that time

Did anyone do the inductive reasoning as part of pre app testing?

I passed my other 3 but have had this come through for a recent application, wasn’t sure if it’s a new test for the new year or just one I didn’t do for some reason although my other apps are progressing.

It’s going to take some practice...........

Passed my medical for grade 2 signal box at Monks Sidings last week. Received contact from my new line manager today who advised the next signalling school date would be march/april is this correct?

Sounds like you've got my old job, I've just worked my last shift there last night, feel free to PM me if there's anything you'd like to know about the box mate.

No plans in CP6 2019-2024 to close any of the boxes on that line, I’d put money on them seeing out the next decade with ease.
Anywhere you can find out the closing date of signal boxes? I'd be interested to see how long my box has!

Google Network Rail Control periods and then read the plans. That will give you an idea of indicative box closure dates.

If it lists 4% then it is a relief job. Though it could just be in one location (Say a PSB relief link)

oh ok cant really leave my permant job for a relief job
can u elaborate on that please

A relief job is a permanent job.

You may cover a range of signal boxes, and cover for staff who are sick, on rest days, on annual leave or briefing days. Or you may work in just one location but do all of that.

Generally speaking you work a much more flexible roster, though in compensation for that you get paid FP which is a percentage on top of your headline pay.

Fear not, Relief means you’ll cover more than one link at Feltham. I’m a Grade 7 with 4% Relief that’s what I do, it’s a permanent role at one location.

Generally 4% premium is on location of work, 12/18/24/36% cover more than one location of work.

The extra is to compensate for not having a defined day/night roster, you’ll be spare subject to the wim of rosters.
You’ll cover gaps in the roster due to sickness, leave etc

The job ISNT a fixed term contract, is full time permeant.

Current 2018 Grade 7 with 4% Relief is £43,219.

Proposed 2019 Grade 7 with 4% Relief is £44,602.

That’s is the 3.2% 2019 pay offer is accepted by RMT.

Reigate seems to be generally well-liked. A nice traditional box with a small lever frame, recently upgraded to a 4. Not too busy (8-10/tph) and an opportunity to gain level crossing experience with an MCB, CCTV and AHBC. Service is a mixture of GWR Gatwick-Reading DMUs and terminating Southern EMUs (the line is only electrified as far west as Reigate). A couple of sidings by the station. 8hr roster.

The only complaints I’ve heard relate to the often-congested local roads - including the M25 - which can extend the drive to/from the box.

I’d be amazed if the union effectively sold the cherished link to RPI for a ‘measly’ 3.2%.

That will depend if Unity house calls in the 2nd stage reps in and if they do then the 2nd stage reps are supposed to consult with the wider members for views and take it back to a second meeting where by the GGC will recommend a negotiating stance to our NOC reps plus others to negotiate with NR Hr plus others. I can’t find any overwhelming enthusiasm either way on this at our place, maybe brexit and politics in general is causing apathy to creep in.

Personally I don’t like not having a defined percentage for 2020, im happy with 3.2% for 2019 as long as the RPI link is retained.

Snippets like an each £250 on a season ticket loan doesn’t interest me, the no increase in South Eastern allowance but increase in inner and outer is a little unfair as well.
