Hello

I'm just getting to grips with all the identifies that trains use in the UK, and was wondering if anyone could help. I'm interested in looking at data provided by National and Network Rail in their various API feeds, and was wondering if anyone knew if the number printed on the front of the train, like in the picture below, is every used in Trust, Darwin or any other data feeds about train positions. I know they use headcodes, and a unique ID, but was wondering if anyone had any more information.

Many thanks!

Allocation data is not open data, so "no" is the answer to your question.

You are out of luck unless you have access to TRUST/TOPS.

Thank you both for the information. Tom, are you planning to include this information on your website/api?

It's a shame that this information still isn't made publicly available. In both Hungary and the Netherlands it is available for their entire railway networks. Fingers crossed that one day it will be available here in the UK.

If you join Railcams uk, they have a Trust section(a bit like TOPS) where people can enter information as they see it and locos on a lot of freight trains can be found, as well as seeing them on their cameras.
