Personally I'd go for signalled given the choice of the two. Both come with their own challenges etc. Signaller has to deal with certain, questionable decusions with movements od trains by control and a conductor has the delights of dealing with fare evaders, anti social behaviour and in some circumstances abuse.

Don't get me wrong, both are great opportunities if you get either you should be chuffed. I think but don't quote me, the signaller course is around 10 weeks long then you are shadowing after this.

Depends if you want to be in an office based role or out and about with the public.

Good luck though

I’d personally be a signaller, but mainly because of the career progression, often higher salary and wanting to get away from customers ;)

Having said that, sugnalling school requires a lot more commitment in terms of training, with the initial course often being residential. And 12-weeks is long.

Signaller, you can sit around on your arse all day doing nothing and annoy drivers when you can't be bothered to pull off signals or answer the GSMR. You also get to stop trains for a couple of minutes, for no reason whatsoever, and then clear the signal straight to green.
Not that I'm suggesting any of them would do that
