How many remaining examples of stations do you know of where there is no footbridge or subway so passengers still have to cross the line via a level crossing or barrow crossing?

Offhand, the only one I know of is Whittlesea, where the crossing gates are closed a few minutes before a train is due so if you have to get to the other side but the gates are locked, then tough, you miss your train (and usually have to wait two hours for the next one).

I'm sure there are other examples.

Penistone. No barriers or anything, nothing to stop you crossing while the train's still in the platform.

Of the top of my head, Downham Market, Watlington, Shippea Hill and Waterbeach. There's possibly more on the lines nearby because of the geography.

There will be lots, mainly rural stations.

IIRC all the stations between Fenny Stratford & Bedford St Johns have level crossings.

All the stations from Nottingham towards Lincoln, a good number of the lighter used stations between Grantham & Skegness.

I dont think giggleswick has a bridge. there seems to be a foot crossing at the eastern end of the platforms. (Looking at Google maps)

Settle used to be a barrow crossing, but there is a bridge there now. barrow crossing still there but there is a locked gate. I assume so disabled can get to the northbound platform under staff supervision.

Though it does have lights indicating whether it's safe to cross or not.

Cononley, Featherstone and Streethouse can only be crossed via the adjacent level crossings, though these are public roads rather than barrow crossings.

Does Bare Lane count? Its not a barrow crossing, its a public road with a level crossing.

edit. shut up ken - just re-read the OP. and he says level crossings are OK

Apologies.

For a level crossing, Cradley Heath and Langley Green would count.

Both have stairs on their footbridge but no accessible Crossing apart from level crossings

Not Littleport, there is an underpass next to the level crossing.

Bromley cross (BMC) outside Bolton, believed that is all the adjacent signal box now controls.

Roche in Cornwall can only be accessed via a barrow crossing. Same for Carmarthen's second platform.

On the North Staffs Line, Alsager, Blythe Bridge and Tutbury & Hatton only have level crossings.

Bentley, near Doncaster. Only access between platforms is the nearby level crossing.

Athens. (You didn't limit it to the UK...)

Well, it was like that a few years ago when I was there anyway. Was quite surprised that a European capital had a station so basic.
