Hi, needing some help please.
I need to park my car as close to Midford Station for a couple of days in early March so as i can access the old railway line as i will be running backwards and forwards through Combe Down Tunnel.
Can anyone recommend some where to park?

Midford is an awful place to park. Apart from the pub car park, which is very cramped and designated for patrons only, there’s virtually nowhere. There may be a bit of on-road parking in the lane which leads down towards the side of Tucking Mill Viaduct, but really the best bet is to park in one of the streets on the Bath side of Devonshire Tunnel and access the tunnels from that end.

Alternatively, the road which passes over the top of the south portal of Combe Down tunnel is okay to park in, I seem to remember there’s a footpath which leads down towards the railway from there.

Sounds as though they could do with some sort of public transport.

Like a railway perhaps !

Thing is, Midford is only really a few houses, and they do of course nowadays have a rather nice cycle path connection to Bath. There’s also Freshford station nearby - albeit another place that is a bit of a horror for vehicular access!

In reality it’s one of those places there’s little need for outsiders to visit, unless you’re visiting the pub in which case there’s a car park (albeit extremely cramped), or you’re into disused railways - in which case it’s a bit of a pain, but by no means unique in that regard...

I also park in the old Wellow Station yard, now a free Council car park. If you stay at the Holiday Inn Express you can park and enter the cycleway trackbed at the Lower Bristol Road entrance. I bike up thro Devonshire Tunnel & Lynford Vale to Midford, from there and roll back down to Bath on the Kennet & Avon canal tow path.
My avitar here is the Combe Down tunnel North side graffiti portal, before restoration..
