So although the rail-replacement buses will still run as planned, what (if any) work will be done over the weekend?
Would it be a continuation of the works, although not full commissioning?

Wasn't the extended period done to enable to make it easier to do the works in a shorter time space.

If they end up doing two days this week and then two days another weekend, one might wonder why the works weren't just done over two separate weekends.

It's possible future works will require more than two days of course, given it's not running continuously from the current works.

There’s some PW work being undertaken, as a class 66 with a load of ballast wagons (?) was parked on the bridge at Bishopstone at 7am this morning.

I’m resigned to yet another line block whilst they complete the work that should have been undertaken this weekend. However, I really hope they avoid the summer weekend closures that have plagued the branch since 2017: and of course, 2016 was ruined by the industrial dispute. We’re a coastal community that brings in tourists, and it’s not good enough to put people on buses, every weekend in July and August.

Yes, I saw mention of the PW work on another forum

I too enjoy the walk up Seaford Head in the summer and a wee drink (or two) in the station bar before boarding the train home so yes, hope the work can be deferred to the colder months (or later)

Thanks for sharing.

Hadn't realised it was single track. How long ago was it singled?

1975 or thereabouts.

They can’t do much with Bishopstone station - eg remove the redundant Down platform - because it’s Grade II listed.

Any information about the future of the signal box buildings on the line? I took a trip down there on Wednesday, Newhaven Town box looked in terrible condition but the Harbour box looked very well cared for.

Ah...earlier then. I definately remember a bracket type semaphore just east of Bishopstone sometime in the early 1980s along with a picture of it somewhere in a book but memory fades me as to the book. Interesting that the semaphores were permanently left in the Clear position as Seaford box was switched out and the "one engine in steam" rule applied on the branch

Agreed that the exterior of Town box is in a terrible state but then presumably, its future has been in a state of flux for many years. Can't remember if Harbour box is listed or not

Bishopstone new track now laid and in process of being tamped - nice! Third rail also needs to go back in.

They are doing as much as they can short of full commissioning.
Delay of 12 months being talked about.

Is this another ElectroLogIXS based interlocking scheme?

So they will be working over the weekend then?

My understanding is it’s “old school” SSI.

So is Lewes box being taken out this weekend? Presumably then, some work will need to be done in Newhaven Town box to interface with TBROC?

The way I read it was that the whole job is postponed. To amend the signalling design at that sort of notice to retain the Newhaven branch is difficult if not impossible.

Commissioning previously planned for March 9th/10th 2019 has been deferred. A new date will be advised when known.
i.e. the full re-control of both Lewes & Newhaven to TB-ROC.
Interesting. I wonder how that came about? I read the post from Tuesday and was cursing myself that I hadn't taken advantage of being in the Horsham area the other week while working. Saying that I couldn't have made the detour to Lewes without my employer noticing so I have probably lost my last chance to grab a photo or two of Lewes SB.

Should have done it at the same time I did Polegate, Berwick, Bexhill, Newhaven etc. back in February 2015.

Going by this article from Network Rail - https://www.networkrail.co.uk/feeds/update-lewes-to-seaford-upgrade/ - the last sentence suggests that things may wait now until after the summer season? I hope so, both for my photographic aims and the jobs of the signallers.

By the sound of things Mr Harris, you might have another chance...
Depends when I next get down that way: the chances to do so are very few and far between from here in Bristol. The reason that I could not have done it when last down in Sussex was that the destination when I was down there was my employer's site at Littlehaven, nr. Horsham. I did get a photo through the window - which the signalman kindly opened - of the inside of Littlehaven GB though so that one got ticked off my list.

I have had my eyes on trying to photo the boxes at Littlehampton, Hastings, Rye, Robertsbridge and Bo-peep Junction for a while if I get the chance.
