Another outstation bites the dust. Just Westbury remaining come next month. Ten years ago was a rather different story!

In recent years, it’s been Frome and Melksham that I can recall but go back 25 years and Badgerline, there were outstations at TrowVegas, Warminster, Devizes, Chippenham (replaced by Melksham), Radstock, Wotton UE, Highbridge, Clevedon off the top of my head.

Of course TrowVegas was a depot (TE) in its own right for some years from 1 January 1970 when Bristol Omnibus Co took over the area's services from Western National. The depot and adjacent bus station closed 10 April 1983.

It was. Also, Highbridge o/s was in the yard of the former depot. Wotton UE and Devizes also had small depots until the 1970s

Wow, a fair few. And I understand there were two in Radstock; one for Bath, one for Bristol. (Guess they didn't want to share). Also not quite the same, but until about 2011, a Taunton bus used to be outstationed at Wells depot, and more recently a Wells bus was outstationed at Yeovil.

There was one in the Yate/Chipping Sodbury area for many years however it tended to wander around and closed at least once because of vandalism.

The two Radstock ones were a bit odd. One was a couple of minilink Transits that were nominally allocated to MH - not certain where they parked.

Later on (c.1992?), Badgerline bought out Clapton Coaches and their depot at Haydon plus parking in the tipper lorry firm came with it so but allocated to BH. I’m sure Carl, Tim (Somerbus) or Andy (Citistar) can add/correct.

The Taunton vehicle at Wells was traditionally parked in the main car park in Glastonbury for many years dating back to Western National days, I believe

I'm sure some Badgerline buses were outstationed at the back of the Radco car park in Radstock at some point.

Where was the bus station in Trowbridge before it shut? As I can't think of anywhere apart from where the Trowdeon (Trowbridge Odeon) is.

The modern day replacement will be the three (or is it two since someone smashed into one of them earlier this year) stands on Market Street outside Castle Place and the two stops on Fore Street to me scream bus station.

It was where the flats at The Conigre are (I.e. head from station towards Sainsbury’s, over the town bridge, bear left on the one way system, on your right).

The site was undeveloped for about 20 years and was used as a car park until the flats were built about 10 years ago. There was a depot building and a yard opposite - this gives detailed information https://warminstervbrd.wordpress.com/history/trowbridge-depot/

The Odeon is built on the site of the original Tesco.

Hi All,
Remember Trowbridge depot from years back when as a lad (use Yorkshire accent if required ) i used to be taken by my parents to visit relations who lived in Trowbridge.
In those days, early sixties Western National FLFs etc were based there before I believe some vehicles passed to Bath and the operation came under the Bristol empire.
Ushers brewery was nearby and if we stayed over the weekend up there I would visit train station on Sunday morning and watch the pigs being unloaded from cattle trucks in Bowyers meat products yard which overlooked the railway.
Happy days,
Mike R

Hi,
Modern day posting now. Yesterday there were 4 Streetdecks off road parked in Wells depot meaning at least 1 Gemini and a B7 were out on 376 workings.
By the afternoon when I passed depot 32286 had arrived from Bath so may have been loaned to Wells.

Apparently quoted in the staff rag are that the new gas deckers are arriving in early 2020 after the site works at Lawrence Hill. 10 to same spec as m1 vehicles (allowing those on m3 to move?) and another 67 on East Bristol routes (that I assume is the 17, 42-45, 48/49 and even 6/7????)

If new buses are that far away, I wonder just how long the ‘loaned’ Presidents from Dawson’s and Solent will last !
Not that I’m complaining as I suspect the earliest B7TLs could have a life extension too, if that is correct. Of course, some cascades could replace them though...

The routes you have quoted sound about right. The 6/7, 17 and 42-45 have a PVR of around 40, whilst the 48/49 have a PVR of around 20. This leaves some spares for other routes (the PVRs I quote are slight estimates)

Seems to be an ongoing problem these Wells Streetdecks being off. So Bath have to loan deckers and as EnviroExplorer suggests with new buses not imminent the B7TLs could last a bit longer. Perhaps even the likes of 30875 32008 and 32669 might have their engines repaired.

Really ???!!!!!! Waiting there used to give me knightmares, hearing them scuttle down the ramp and then squeal to oblivion when the inevitable happened. Talk about Childhood trauma o_O, mind you didn't stop me munching Mr Abrahams finest produce!!

Plenty of e400mmcs on Rail replacement in Cardiff. A number of 1/2 examples (33973 was one), Bath Unibus ones and a 48 liveried one.

However, someone thought 32335 would enjoy a workout. It didn’t - sat expired by the side of the A48 with people already narked by the RR getting more annoyed!

32335 is an absolute nightmare, it broke down on James Street West a few weeks back!

On the subject of rail replacement, yesterday at Weston there was a Unibus E400MMC, 33685, 47445, 69448 and a 1/2 branded E400MMC.

Also plenty of orange Excel E400s in Portishead yesterday morning!

One point from TravelWest is that the X8 will be every 30 minutes, not every hour as had been thought by some on here.

First are saying they're operating it every hour and that's what the timetable on Traveline says (however that's already on version 2 with 4 weeks till to go).
