Jack & Victor actually did some recorded announcements for Exhibition Centre station when Still Game Live was running at the SSE Hydro - some of the station signage was also altered to match!

Like this from Glasgow Queen Street...

Unfortunately I can't find the station announcements audio by Jack and Victor from the Exhibition Centre.

Charlotte Green and Brian Perkins
Henry Blofeld (who would probably describe all of the buses outside each station!)
+ 1 for Charlotte Green and Blowers. Could also add Aggers to that as well.

:) - Scotrail actually do PIS messages like this for any big events - usually they're a play on song titles by whatever band is playing at the Hydro that night. The themes are usually as per the one you showed, I.e. Mind the gap, buy a ticket, don't drink too much etc. Whoever writes them is pretty inventive, but they really went all-out for Still Game Live

It's a great pity we can't have Victoria Wood. Alan Bennett would be a more than acceptable substitute. Southern TOCs would probably prefer Stephen Fry but he comes over a tad too smug for northern ears.

Yes, they would be fun if somewhat incomprehensible, as would Ronnie Barker in 'pismonunciation' mode.

Kenny Everett would have been entertaining.

Or if we're talking 'serious':

Deceased: Brian Matthew, Terry Wogan, Alan Freeman.

Still with us: John Humphries, Ken Bruce (the last of their kind).

Why don't broadcasters have 'the voice for the job' any more? But I guess that's for another thread, even another forum...

I see Paul McGann has already been mentioned, which got me thinking of other voices from the world of Doctor Who.

Of course, some of the best candidates are no longer with us. I'm thinking particularly of the late, great John Hurt.

Of those that remain, Tom Baker is an obvious first choice. Sylvester McCoy might be entertaining! David Tennant could do his natural Scottish brogue north of the border and his convincing English accent in the South! On the flipside, how about John Simm?

Natalie Cassidy (Sonia from Eastenders).

In all seriousness, somebody like Joanna Lumley would get my vote (though the most similar voices we have on the railway to hers is probably either Celia or Janine Cooper-Marshall who is onboard GWR units fitted with PIS).

I also think Victoria Coren Mitchell would be good too.

I'd like a couple of younger announcers with good clear voices too as they'll be able to provide a good 20+ years of recordings before their voices begin to change.

In the 2012 Olympics in London a range of the special PA announcements on both the Underground and main line stations were voiced by mayor Boris himself.

New York Subway announcements have long been done by a range of locally well-known radio station announcers.

Some voices just work. I think it's Peri Gilpin who does (or used to do) the Seattle Metro "Doors open to the Left" announcements.

The most important element is that the voice is clear.

Paul Darrow, who does the voice of "Jack FM" or "Union Jack", would work very well indeed.

Frasier's producer does have a voice with a certain something........

My votes would be for Peter Kay in the daytime and Gregory Porter after sunset.

I'd love it if Geoff Marshall did all of them, funnily enough he did do some temporary announcments on Thameslink.

But I would most certainly hate it if Justin Bieber got to do any. He is a really bad person in my opinion. Nuff said!

The NYC Subway have some fantastic announcements. They all seem way too excited by the fact that you can change to the F train at the next stop.

Which celebrity would you like to voice on-train passenger announcements?

One's who spring to mind are Sean Dyche and Fenella Fielding, Marilyn Monroe (although I think they are both dead)

Not sure whether he counts as celebrity, however Rob Bell has a nice soothing yet commanding voice.

One I miss is the male voice used by Ditra during the 1990s, actor John Elgar I believe. Mainly heard on the Southern region especially the London termini, but did feature in a few other locations too.
