As the title states, what’s the difference between the 2 tickets?

Also is a London Thameslink to Peterborough ticket valid on LNER?

London Thameslink gives additional validity as far as London Bridge/Elephant & Castle.

(From Bedford they are also valid into London Euston of course, as with a London Terminals ticket)

Any ticket valid for travel between London and Peterborough, which is not a 'dedicated' fare valid on GTR only, is valid on all relevant operators, including LNER.

From the Great Northern side a London Terminals ticket is valid to:

Kings Cross
Moorgate
Old Street
St Pancras
Liverpool Street (from stations between Cambridge and Kings Lynn)

Tickets to London Thameslink are valid to:

Kings Cross
St Pancras
Farringdon
City Thameslink
Blackfriars
London Bridge
Elephant & Castle

Tickets from Peterborough to London Thameslink are routed 'Great Northern and Thameslink only' so not valid on LNER.

For Cambridge-London Thameslink, it is implied from the NRE page they are *not* valid into Liverpool Street, so are not a "London Terminals plus Thameslink" ticket in this case.

That's right. It's quite bizarre really as a Cambridge - London Thameslink ticket really ought to be valid into Liverpool Street.

We had this discussion before and it goes completely against the principle of "London Thameslink" when it was first introduced.

Until the introduction of "Thameslink" branded trains on the "Great Northern" route, the purpose was purely to provide additional validity for passengers on the "Bedpan" line, but it looks like someone is trying to use it as a tool to reduce validity to Great Northern route customers.

If anyone here is in a relevant constituency in the Cambridgeshire area, perhaps they could ask their MP to raise this issue.

Which I agree would be handy if you're headed for the Monument-y area without needing a Travelcard /pair of single!

I don't see what the problem is when the London Terminals tickets are still available alongside those to London Thameslink.

Well, for one, if you wanted to make use of the permitted route to Liverpool Street (e.g. to go to Stansted Airport) but you normally commute to one of the Thameslink core stations such as City Thameslink, you would be stuck unless you were willing to stump up for the cost of a Travelcard season ticket.

That may be so, but it isn't a loss of availability compared to the situation prior to the introduction of London Thameslink tickets. It's more a difference brought about by the introduction of a wider range of options. It could equally be argued that to retain the Liverpool Street option for everybody the London Thameslink tickets should not have been introduced on the GN route.
