Moving GWR applications?

Has anyone ever attempted to move depots while in the process of recruitment?

I have the Plymouth application on the go and have the 2nd stage booked for October. Par Depot has now been advertised externally, this Par position was not available at the time of me applying for the Plymouth role and is only a 10-minute commute from where I live.

I do not want to jeopardise my position in this process in any way, but would like to know, can an applicant be possibly be moved to another application location and stay at the same stage that they are at with the tests. The GWR website won't let me apply as I have Plymouth position going.

Without wanting to sound simplistic have you contacted the recruitment department to ask? Surely they will be the only ones who can answer your question.

Yes emailed them, could be at least 3 working days before they reply and count in the weekend, by which time I suspect the vacancy will be taken down. Can't phone them as answering machine service.

I just wondered if anyone on this forum had done this before and what the outcome was as I don't want to ruin the progress I have already made. I see a lot of members on here apply for multiple jobs like me as they want to get onto the railway and as it's such a long recruitment process, other positions come up which might be more suitable to them, in my case a better choice depot due to location.

Not sure what else you can do then. Personally knowing the railway I would guess it would be a no go and i would just concentrate your efforts on trying to get the original job you applied for. Your not going to know though for definite until they respond to your question.
Good luck to you.

You can, but you need to email and ask them to do it. You then withdraw from one and continue the other.

I Had a reply already which was a quick response.

Thank you for your email.
As you’ve already applied for a Trainee Train Driver role, you cannot apply for the same role within this category. You will have to wait six months to apply for another Trainee Train Driver role. However, you can apply for other jobs which maybe of interest to you.

Not to worry I'm still excited to be in the process, its just a little unfortunate with the timing, I could have done with the Par vacancy coming up first.

At least I don't have to keep checking my emails every hour, every day, now I have a date for October :)

Is your October date for the stage 1 assessment and is it in Exeter as I know a few people have already had their 1st assessment day and have the 2nd stage before October. All applied at the same time and all for Plymouth talent pool.

I would say it depends on how you worded your question in the email. If it was ‘Can I apply for this role’ then the answer could be as above. However if you asked whether you could switch applications and your current stage 1 pass to Par then you may get a different answer.

Funny you should say that. I saw this go up and was thinking of moving from the penzance pool. I live within the 60 mins of par. Iv asked HR about this before and it's entirely possible but as it's been said above, you lose all progress within your current depot choice and move but only if the driver manager at current depot agrees.

As long as you aren't at DMI stage the only thing to really consider is depot size. You'd struggle to form a cricket team with Par depot, so you need to consider how long you may be stuck in a talent pool.

On the other hand, the new harmonised Plymouth depot is likely to grow much faster, and it's possible it will absorb Par's work; it's a perennial rumour that Par will be run down in favour of Plymouth.

It continues as there's no break of TOC service. If you went Pax-frieght-pax you'd restart with 'zero' service when you rejoined. Pax-pax is unbroken

Not just for drivers, but any staff at a TOC if changing TOCs will get FIP passes every year still (as Tiptoptaff said), but also all PRIV rate travel with just continue too, and as it’s not TOC specific, you don’t need to have RST change company name etc (they used to be issued with your current TOC details on, but aren’t anymore).
