Its not just Christmas; looks like there will be several weekends of High Speed closures into January and possibly February too.

The question is will alternative fast services be provided on those weekends? If not then the majority of Kent will be face much longer journey times than normal and be highly annoyed as a result. The Southeastern Mainline has the potential to cope with at least 2 express services an hour considering it is hardly busy at the weekend and not at all congested off peak.

In post #23 I explained the current situation when engineering work takes place and how there is room for improvement.

The Eurostar website says that Saturday 21 is OK but 28/29 are not. So you would have to return via London (or coach from Ebbsfleet).

Southeastern have put up a page about this work.
https://www.southeasternrailway.co....e-travel-information/ashford-engineering-work

Ashford station engineering work from Thursday 26 – Sunday 29 December
What’s happening at Ashford International station?
Engineering work is being carried out at Ashford International station from Thursday 26 December to Sunday 29 December 2019.

This work is part of a £1.25 billion investment to improve journeys for passengers on the Kent network. The work will involve replacing track, improving drainage, upgrades to points and other works which will improve journeys for passengers travelling on this part of the Kent network. There's never an ideal time to disrupt your journey but by working with Network Rail we can minimise the disruption.

Please plan ahead and check your journey via our journey planner, National Rail, or the Southeastern On Track app.

How will this affect my journey?
The work will impact on some Southeastern services, there will also be no high speed or Eurostar services calling at Ashford.

  • If you're travelling to London via Ashford International you should use mainline services, which will take around 45 minutes longer than the usual high speed trains
  • There will be no Southeastern services between Canterbury West, Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International.
  • Southeastern services via Tonbridge and Maidstone East will run, as will Southern services to Eastbourne.
  • Replacement buses will run between Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International (estimated journey time of around 1 hour), and Ashford International and Canterbury West (estimated journey time of around 40 minutes)

What services will be running on each of the days work is carried out?
Tuesday 24 December

  • A normal weekday service will run until early afternoon on Christmas Eve, and some evening peak services will leave London terminals earlier than usual.
  • Train services will stop running around 10pm.
Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 December

  • No train services will run on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
Friday 27 December to Sunday 29 December

  • We will run a Saturday train service, with no high speed service between Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International on Friday 27 December, some routes will close entirely with many journeys taking longer than usual
  • A half-hourly replacement bus service will run between Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International, and a half-hourly high speed shuttle will run between Ebbsfleet International, Stratford International and St Pancras International
  • Hourly high speed services will run from Faversham and Ramsgate to St Pancras International via Ebbsfleet International
  • Replacement buses will run between Ashford International and Canterbury West, calling at all stations (but they are expected to be very busy)
  • An hourly shuttle will run between Canterbury West and Margate
  • We will run longer trains on mainline services via Tonbridge
  • If you're travelling to London from Ramsgate you should use high speed services via Faversham
  • If you're travelling to London from Canterbury you should travel from Canterbury East, and can change at Faversham for high speed services
  • If you're travelling from Sandwich to London via Folkestone and Dover, you can use mainline services to Charing Cross

The timetables are live in RTT so you can judge for yourself... There are only 2 platforms available at Ashford, and with Ashford Hitachi Depot in the possession Rolling Stock availability is limited at best. There are extra fast services on Sundays from what I've seen, but not on Fri 27th December or Saturdays.
