Looking at it, they have a 25, 37 and a dmu. (and some shunters)

Looks like the 26 has gone back to the Bo'ness and Kinneil and the 2 24s are awaiting/under overhaul.

Is the lack of diesels an issue, because it really isn't much when compared to other large heritage lines.

Obviously, like other lines they try and provide as many steam services as they can, but you can't argue the importance of diesels for heritage lines.

The 25 also seems to be the only one certified to go to Whitby.

Have they got a bit of an issue there, as I know some lines struggle for steam, has the NYMR got a diesel shortage.

No as the steam fleet has increased over the last couple of years so less reliance on diesels (except during fire risk)

There is no shortage at the NYMR, but the line's diesels probably see use on as many days as they did in BR service. For example, in the main running season, the 25 may be in service for 28 days in a month, and on maintenance the other 3. This is in contrast to many other lines where a loco would run for 3 days (if you are lucky) and be parked up the other 28! The NYMR publishes its loco mileages in Moors Line and in 2018, total diesel mileage on the line was 21,911, of which the 25 did 8,529, the now departed 26 did 5,579 and the 37 (which was OOS for the first 7 months) 1,509.

The 26 was always planned to go back to Bo'ness before the end of the year, and the main running season is now over. - although the 25 is out on Whitby services tomorrow, Assuming the 24 under overhaul isn't ready for 2020, I'd expect another loco to appear for the main season, possibly tied in with the line's diesel gala which is taking place in June.
