I think Bletchleyite meant that Pendolinos were the manufacturer's name, not Adelante, which I think is a First Group invention.

Pendolino is the trade name for Fiat Ferroviaria's tilting technology (originally ex-BR, and now Alstom), and is not a general term for tilting trains.
Sweden's X2000 is not a Pendolino, for instance, neither are the various Talgo tilting products - nor class 221 Voyagers for that matter.
I was referring to the fact that the pendolino isn't just the BR class 390, there are international versions. I didn't mean you call any tilting train a pendolino.

someone took a pic inside a DRS MK3 last week, it still had a Virgin route map in it!

Also an update on custhelp: EMR are quoting 'Avanti West Coast' again and TFW now mention it too.
... well for the next hour or so ! :)
There's also a blank 'Avanti West Coast' Wikipedia page linking to West Coast Rail, but I suppose anyone could have done that,.

I still think it's more likely that 'Avanti' will be the operator's name, but not the brand name for the services (as with West Midlands Trains or Govia Thameslink Railway).

Pendolino is the general name for tilting trains worldwide, but I thought the Voyager name was just for the product, rather than brand?

Pendolino is the general name for a specific brand of tilting train using a Fiat developed tilting system, it is not a generic name for a tilting train and is a registered trademark.

Yes but they have built pendolinos for several countries was my point.

I'm glad that a variation of "Avanti West Coast" is looking more likely than LMS. I'm tired of the old fashioned names like GWR, LNER, LNWR, WMR, EMR, SWR... It's beginning to get incredibly tiresome...

Some people like the nostalgia though. Also, if they have names without mentioning a parent company, it's easier for franchise changes.

I get the nostalgia factor, but it sucks all the character and unique identity out of a TOC in my opinion. Ever since FGW re branded to GWR, and changed to that unbearably dull livery, they've been so boring to travel on, without the colourful interior and exterior of the trains. I'm worried the same will happen after Virgin leave, who have been one of if not the most charismatic and fun loving TOCs we've had.

To be fair, GWR managed to keep it modern yet old style and has worked well. SWR is modern and it seems it has railway on the end because they couldn't put trains on the end as SWT already exists. LNER is ok, not great not bad, EMR, WMR and LNWR are bad imo.

It's getting far too samey for my tastes. And I've made my opinion about GWR clear.

I have a feeling that the brand will be more like TPE, than SWR and GWR

Like it or not, Virgin has created such a strong image on its stations that the de-branding (of the Virgin logos), in my opinion, isn't that obvious, and the stations still seem to be Virgin.
A Virgin feature which is being missed is the wavy lines on, for instance, waiting room windows (and it's also, subtly perhaps, on the interior of Pendos.)
Be interesting to see whether they actually find everything. A gents' somewhere on East Coast still has this...

Yes, I'm pretty sure that the class 180s are part of Alstom's Coradia 1000 family of trains (as are the class 175s).

Nope it's 1730 on the 27th November.

Brand Launch (from the horses mouth).

Another topic that’s been the source of much speculation and intrigue is the brand for the new WCML operation.
You’ll be pleased to know you don’t have to wait too much longer to find out what it will be, with the brand launch taking place at 1730 on 27 November in a Central Birmingham location.

Wednesday it is then?

Currently at Preston and just inside the door to DHLs catering hub for VT there are a number of catering trolleys in what looks like the orange of the Avanti logo. Seems like they've been rebranded quickly over the weekend. Can't take a pic though sorry. Also there are crates of Wenlock Spring water outside with "return to supplier - relabel" on them. Also some bottles with new labels with what looks like an orange triangle...

The railway isn’t there to satisfy the nostalgia needs of the enthusiast community (as they’re the only people who care about stuff like this, the general travelling public doesn’t give a toss what the company is called as long as it appears on time etc) and nor should it be.

That's not entirely true, you think someone would like to travel on a company called "Rubbish Trains?". Me thinks not.

I'm sorry, they're going to ship bottled water (which is bad enough as it is) across the country just to have a new label stuck on it?

Disgusting.
