NOTE: about 650 yards south of Hollybush 1st station was Hollybush 2nd station (still in existence as a private residence by the look of it on Google Earth). I haven't found exact dates for these, but based on OS maps the station was in its first location in 1885 and had moved by 1901.

Much appreciated for this information

We next take a short connecting run on the line of the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company (where there are some 1st stations) that will take us to the line of the Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Newport Railway.

Last year, I was informed that after leaving Bassaleg Junction, there was a direct route that went straight through to the open station of Caerphilly, from where, to the line of the Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Newport Railway.

We have a slight hiccup here - I think because the Wikipedia diagram of the P,C&N Railway is a bit misleading. To get from Bassaleg Junction to Caerphilly we have to traverse about eight miles of the Brecon & Merthyr route from Bassaleg Junction via Machen Junction to Caerphilly East Junction - hence the note on Wikipedia "Brecon and Merthyr Railway via Machen". We would pass a number of closed stations on the way. It would be better on the diagram as a dotted line rather than a bar across the route.

This does indeed pose a problem, as you will see from the journey preamble, based on the information at hand when I designed this journey, I showed no intermediate line between the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company and the Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Newport Railway.

Ok - well, no great problem. You could post a modification to the journey preamble with a suitable note?
