I was planning a trip to Cardiff next week, but guess that with today’s heavy rainfall over Wales that it is unlikely as most of the Severn, Lugg and Wye valleys are still underwater. For some rason NRE are showing the 1622 from Cardiff to Chester as running normally today amid a sea of cancellations and bus substitutions.

The closure of the Marches has prevented the change over of units for maintenance and operating requirements between North and South but with the re-opening of the Heart of Wales Line this has been made possible but only by passing anything through a possession. The line is closed between Llandovery and Llanwrtyd until the end of next week for vegetation clearance work so shouldn't have been too much difficulty to suspend in order to pass an ECS through in each direction. But 5M30 from Shrewsbury was worked by a 153+2 x 158s. The Facebook source thought that 5M40 from Swansea to Shrewsbury would have been a 175 which sounds logical.

Line reopened according to TfWrail:

From their website:

Marches (Abergavenny to Hereford) - REOPEN

Services on the Marches will run as normal today. Road replacement will remain in place until the end of service. Road replacement bus timetable can be found for today here

50mph temporary speed limit through the area, but otherwise everything is back to normal now.
